BERTHA (BETTY) DALL Mom passed away peacefully at the age of 94, on August 17, 2013, at the Donwood Personal Care Home, after a long illness. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Harold, her parents Harry and Teni Bouma, her sister Gert, and brothers John and Pete. Also gone before her is her dear friend Daisy Russell. Mom is survived by her daughters Betty and Bernice (Ed Garvie), her grandsons Brett (Linda) and Trevor, and her "greats" Serena and J.B. Mom had a special bond with Brett, Linda, Serena and J.B. and we would like to thank them for their love and kindness to their Nana/Oma. Mom is also survived by her nieces and nephews, including Harry (Delrene) Ritchie and their family of Minneapolis, and Jackie (Keith) Larter and Ireland of Winnipeg. Mom was a life-long animal lover. Many a dog and cat found their way to her door and a loving home. Mom was born in Morse Place where her parents owned Bouma Dairies. She often spoke of helping her father deliver the milk, in big metal cans, trudging down an unplowed winter road. She also told many stories of the difficulties of living through the depression. Betty married Harold in 1937. After Harold joined the navy in 1942, she joined other navy wives travelling from coast to coast to follow her husband before he was shipped overseas. Except for a few years working at Eaton's Mail Order, Betty was a stay at home Mom. She was a hard worker who wasn't afraid to tackle anything, namely carpentry, electrical and roofing. She was known for her delicious scones and shortbread and was usually the first to welcome a new neighbor with a home-made cake. Although not an eager traveler, she did enjoy her holidays to Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Vancouver with her daughter Betty. Cremation has taken place. At Mom's request there will be no funeral service. However, there will be a Celebration of Mom's life, to be held 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. In lieu of flowers and to honor our mother's fierce love of animals, please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a no-kill shelter of your choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Martens and the wonderful caring staff at Donwood Personal Care Home (2 South). Mom loved it there, the people, the food and especially her own room. Thank you for making her passing so peaceful.
