NINA BALBON After a difficult battle with cancer Nina passed away January 23, 2009 at San Mateo Hospital in San Mateo, California, surrounded by her son and grandson. She was 82. Nina, who was born in Kiev, Ukraine, has German ancestry. She moved to Canada at age two and grew up in a small Saskatchewan town with her five siblings before moving to Winnipeg. In Winnipeg she married William and had a son, Brian. She worked in accounting/bookkeeping until health problems forced a change in careers. She is also survived by her sisters Adeline, Valentine, and Adina and their families. Nina loved to travel, to watch some of her favorite TV programs, and to play cards with her family. She liked spending time in California. She was a pleasant person who managed to live a fairly normal life while dealing with long-standing health problems. Meanwhile, she never complained and was self-sacrificing to her loving family. She gave only as a mother or grandmother could. Her last years in Winnipeg were spent at Donwood Manor where she was well regarded; our thanks to the people there. She is finally laid to rest in Winnipeg at Brookside Cemetery. Remember a life well lived, leaves its gentle pattern in the hearts of all, and the world is a lovelier place because one person touched it with warmth, goodness and grace. Your special memories will be a comfort to us all. We will forever miss you. You are safe in God's hands. For more information contact her son Brian.
