ARCHIE OLIVER JARDINE
Born: Oct 27, 1928
Date of Passing: Aug 21, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARCHIE OLIVER JARDINE 1928 - 2013 Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Archie Jardine passed away on August 21, 2013 at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie; children Cindy (Errol), Scott (Barb), and Janet (Kelvin); and grandson Zachary. He also leaves behind Marie's sister Janet, step-granddaughters Terra and Tamara and their families, many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Irene, father Jack and Marie's sister Phyllis. Archie was born in Matlock, MB on October 27, 1928, the only child of Irene and Jack. He spent much of his youth in Pickle Crow, ON, where he developed his love of the outdoors. Archie received his BSc in Forest Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 1949. It was there he met the love of his life, Marie, whom he married that same year. Archie spent his career with the Manitoba provincial government. The family resided primarily in Winnipeg, spending a brief period in Dauphin. After retirement, Archie and Marie split their time between their beloved cottage on Barren Lake and Dunedin, FL. In recent years, they relocated back to Winnipeg. Archie was known for his love of everything Scottish, and he and Marie loved to travel. He was a gregarious, caring person who touched the lives of many, many people. Above all, he was the very best husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the caring, compassionate and respectful staff at Lion's Manor. A celebration of Archie's life will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Janet and Kelvin's house, 79 Morning Glory Crescent, Winnipeg between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. We would ask that everyone bring their favourite story about Archie to share. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Archie's name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Mr Jardine's name just came up when my dad, Ken Peters and a friend of Archies in Pickle Crow, and I were talking about the old days. Archie and a few friends had built 2 tee pees and fixed up an old prospector's cabin at a lake about 5 miles from Pickle Crow. The local boys would go there for "clean" fun and Archie was the leader. This was the first time my dad had mentioned Archie and he was clearly a role model for my dad. My dad lamented that they had lost touch after returning to Wpg even though they both later lived in Dauphin and had cottages in the Whiteshell. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Dwight Peters for Ken Peters (teenage friend) on: Oct 10, 2013

Janet & Family, Our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. I remember cutting through the cross walk from Galinee to get to your house and standing chatting with your Dad at your front door. He was such a nice man and I know he'll be deeply missed. My parents remember your Dad fondly from all the St. Andrews and related scottish events and also send their condolences. Fiona - Posted by: Fiona Webster Mourant (Friend of Janet ) on: Aug 28, 2013

Having lost my dad almost 5 years ago all I can wish for you is to heal. WE spoke of it recently and I'm just so sorry you have to go through this. No one warns you about this part of life. Your parents were just so lovely to me as a child. I remember always being welcome in your home and I thought you were rich because your dad always offered me my favorite drink BEEP. Funny those memories that stay with you. I am so very sorry for you and your family. Stay strong my friend, of course you'll be nothing less. Sincere condolences, Roz and Nick - Posted by: Roz Rigas (Pearson) (Janet's friend) on: Aug 27, 2013

We first met Archie and Marie when they bought their cottage on Barren Lake. We went back and forth a few times and always enjoyed a glass of Archie's wine with he and Marie. It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of our friend Archie. Our 2 to 3 week visit to Winnipeg every summer for as long as I remember was not only visiting family (Marr's) but seeing Archie and Marie both in town and up in Barren Lake. Seeing the Jardine's was like waking up on Christmas day as a child. Archie and Marie with their infectious smile and genuine loving nature (which meant a big bear hug and a kiss on the cheek). The cottage brought so much joy, laughter and most of all the memories for our kids Bryan, Amanda and Cameron. Marie would make the traditional roast beef on the BBQ using the rotisserie and Archie would carve using the electric carver (which I thought was so cool) and sitting around the fireplace talking about our kids, work and our travels. Archie would be deeply missed but not forgotten and to Scott (Barbara), Cindy (Errol), Janet (Kelvin) and Marie...we share your loss and offer our strength during this difficult time. We are so glad you were able to meet our daughter Amanda. She is special not only for who she is but for her special bond she has with Scott. She has so many memories of Archie. We are so sad we cannot be there to celebrate your dad's life but his spirit will be us. Our heartfelt condolences.....Dan, Ena and our children. - Posted by: Dan Jang (Brother in law to Barb Jardine (husband to Scott)) on: Aug 24, 2013
