WALTER GEORGE DAVIE
Date of Passing: Aug 21, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER GEORGE DAVIE Peacefully on August 21, 2013, Walter Davie went to be with his Lord and Savior. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Sally, of 59 years: his children Debbie (Garth) Epp, Kerry (Joanne) Davie, and Ken (Bobbi) Davie: his grandchildren Jodi (Kevin) Janzen, Jonathon Epp, and Nathan Epp: his one great-grandchild Karli Janzen: his sister Ethel Beck and brother Cliff Davie, and extended family. Walter was born in Winnipeg in 1926, however his family moved to Scotland when he was three years old, remaining there for twenty years. He was a member of the Royal Marines for three years and served briefly in the Second World War. The family moved back to Winnipeg in 1949 and it was shortly after this that Walter began working at Canadian National Railway. He worked at CN for thirty five years mostly as a machinist, eventually becoming assistant foreman. He retired in 1986 at which time he and Sally began enjoying many years wintering in the southern U.S., most latterly in Brownsville, Texas. Though Walter suffered from Ankylosing Spondylitis, he never complained and was always in high spirits. He was a master at repairing anything and everything, could always be found working at his work bench in the basement, and was always willing to help family, extended family, and friends. He was a very good badminton player and enjoyed sports and music. Walter was known for his gentle nature, his upbeat personality and keen sense of humour. He attended Bethesda Church in Winnipeg for many years and served as an usher there. Above all he was a wonderful husband and father who always made time for his family and has left a Godly legacy for them to follow. Many thanks to both the staff at Golden Links Lodge, where he resided since November 17, 2011, and the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for their wonderfully compassionate care. A funeral service will be held on August 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church at 500 Lagimodiere Boulevard, Winnipeg. Pastor Ron Koleba will officiate. There will be a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society.

Walter Davie as I remember was very faithfully involved in the church. He was there every Sunday making certain everyone was seated and the offering was taken care of. He held many offices in Bethesda lending his voice in the choir and was always there for the Church and our Lord. Thank you Lord for his dedication and forever strong influence for good around him.
