Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNARD (BERNIE) YANISHEWSKI 1960 - 2013 Peacefully, Bernie passed away August 21, 2013. Bernie was born June 5, 1960 in Winnipeg, MB. He is survived by his parents Mike and Gloria, brother Carl, sister Cindy Jasper (David) and nephews Matthew and Evan. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Dennis and Linda, as well the staff with New Directions for their compassion and care. With their support, Bernie was able to live his last years with dignity and respect within a residential community setting. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 28 at 2:00 pm at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Family and friends may meet at the funeral home at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Bernie may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

I had the opportunity to meet Bernie a few years ago and act as a casual caregiver with him. Despite Bernie's condition I found him to be a very insightful and intelligent man. A whiz at cards and crib and he could tell you what band or singer did almost any song if it was from the 60s or 70s. He had a sense of humour that was subtle and easy to miss if you weren't paying attention and I enjoyed our times together. I will miss spending time with Bernie.
