Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryB. LORRAINE MUNROE B. Lorraine Munroe, aged 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2013 with family at her side. Since moving from Winnipeg in 2001, she resided in Nanaimo, BC, and she will be missed deeply by her family and all who knew her. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Alan, her father Fredrick Lockyer, her mother Audley Marius and stepfather Victor Marius, her father-in-law Ross Munroe and mother-in-law Fanny Munroe, her brother Lloyd Lockyer, her sister June Lukas and her brother-in-law Joe Lukas, her sister-in-law Rae Munroe, her brother-in-law Jim Munroe, sister-in-law Pauline Munroe and her daughter-in-law Sylvia Munroe. Mom is survived by her sons Fred (Monica) Munroe, Ken (Suzanne) Munroe, Don (Marlene) Munroe, Richard (Janice) Munroe, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Audrey Lockyer, brother-in-law George Munroe, and the families of numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on November 4, 1926 and grew up as the oldest sister to her siblings. After living in several locations in the west, her family moved to Winnipeg where she continued to live for most of her adult life. In 1942, while employed as the first female telegraph messenger in Canada, Lorraine met her husband Alan to whom she was married for 54 years, until his death in 2001. In their early years of marriage, they lived on Home Street, Rampart Bay and later moved to Windsor Park. Along the way, Mom gave birth to four rambunctious boys and together with Dad, they gave them the best upbringing that they could. For several years, Lorraine worked at the Rolling Pin, our family business. From there she went on to enjoy her career at the St. Boniface Hospital as a secretary. Throughout the years, Lorraine made many friends and was still making friends up until the day she passed away. In retirement, Lorraine enjoyed travel, especially the many cruises that she managed to make, and train travel which she loved. Mom also read abundantly and loved music. One of her favourite hobbies was knitting, and during her retirement years in Nanaimo, Lorraine knitted and donated hundreds of baby caps for newborn children. Mom was absolutely devoted to her family, and her greatest joys were watching her sons grow up and enter manhood, become married, and then taking huge delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always adored her ever expanding family. Lorraine loved life and embraced her independence, until her health began to deteriorate. Up to the end, she remained passionate towards everyone she knew. Cremation has taken place, and Lorraine's life will be celebrated by a gathering of friends and family on September 8 in Nanaimo, and her funeral will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre - 3030 Notre Dame Avenue in Winnipeg on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Lorraine will be laid to rest beside her husband Alan in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to a charity of your choice.

My condolences to the family. Lorraine will always be remembered for her graciousness. She was a wonderful individual. And although I hadn't seen her for a few years her photo was still her. Nice hair always, and that smile - Posted by: olive vandal (hairstylist) on: Sep 14, 2013

I'll remember Lorraine as an amazing friend. One who could express her joy, her sorrow, her disappointment, her loneliness, her pain, her grief and her pride with a tear and a smile. She was always there to give moral support to family and friends. Thank you Lorraine for being a sister to me. Rest in peace in God's world. Lorraine was a very special person who could give calm to a bad situation and make the greatest breakfast with little more than a hot plate. All the family will miss her. - Posted by: David m Lockyer (Nephew) on: Aug 28, 2013

So deeply sorry to hear this sad news of my "Auntie" Lorraine. I have many fond memories of the good ole days (when I was a lil one) and the gang of Munroe's, McLean's & Dowie's hanging out together. I loved that we always kept in touch with Christmas cards and updated news together over many years. I've missed those during the past few years as she was no longer able to keep in touch as we always had done. I enjoyed a few visits with her when she returned back to Winnipeg while still in good health. She is at peace now with "Uncle" Al..."Uncle" Lou...Maureen...and my Dad (Gord). Thinking of all of you at this difficult time. Love Always, Kimberley McLean - Posted by: Kimberley McLean (God Daughter) on: Aug 28, 2013
