DOREEN FRANCES LYON MARTIN (nee THOMPSON) Doreen was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan on August, 18, 1917 and passed away suddenly in Brampton, Ontario on June 14, 2013 in her 96th year after a severe circulatory illness, with her family beside her. Doreen led a very active life, first attending Business College in Winnipeg at the age of 16, and becoming an underwriter for General Motors Acceptance before marrying a young civil engineer, Grant Lyon, in 1942, after which she pursued interests in parenting, golf, curling, bridge, music, reading and later, real estate. Doreen became a widow at the early age of 52 when Grant succumbed to a sudden heart attack in January of 1970, the same year that she celebrated the birth of her first grandchild, Christy, and also became the President of the Canadian Ladies Golf Association. After working in real estate and spending happy retirement years in Stuart, Florida with her second husband, Tommy Martin, she lost him to cancer in 1988. She is survived by her son John, daughter Janet and stepdaughter Susan; her grandchildren, Christy and Marianne Lyon, and Chelsea, Regan and Brendan Forsyth; and her great grandchildren, Megan, Jenna, Branna, and Wil, and Emma, Teagan and Beckett. She will be deeply missed by friends and family. A brief service was held for immediate family at the Elmwood graveside in Winnipeg on August 23.
