MERLE JOHNSTON Peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2013 , after a long illness, Merle Johnston (née McGuigan) passed away at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care. Merle was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Jim and her brother, Verdie. Merle leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Carole, son-in-law Gary, grandsons Bryce and Kyle (Shannon), and Merle's sister Lorna. Merle was a woman of exceptional strength, beauty and independence who was known for her smile and charm. Merle had a lifelong love of fashion, music and the lake. Merle enjoyed various careers but she was especially proud of her 25 years with the Royal Bank in Winnipeg, MB, Oakville, North Bay, Peterborough and Toronto, ON. Upon retiring, Merle and Jim returned home to settle at Winnipeg Beach to enjoy many happy years with family particularly their two favourite people, grandsons Bryce and Kyle. Thank you to those who kept Mom in their thoughts and prayers during this long journey. Thank you to Kennedy Cognitive Services for the wonderful, stimulating program that kept Mom engaged weekly. Thank you to Cindy for keeping music in Mom's life. Thank you to Flo for the manicures Mom so enjoyed. Thank you to Tuxedo Villa for the care and kindness shown to Mom on a daily basis. A special thank you to Kelley for the wonderful connection she developed with Mom. Kelley was a gift to Merle and her daughter. Mom would always ask "is Kelley coming today?". A private burial took place September 5, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Merle is again close to Jim. If friends wish, donations in Merle's memory may be made to Rossbrook House Youth Organization, 658 Ross Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 0M1 or a charity of their choice.
