WILMA DUNCAN (nee MORRIS) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Wilma Duncan on September 5, 2013. Wilma was born in Austin, Manitoba in 1923 to Joe and Annie Morris. Wilma will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Andy, her husband of 70 years, son Glenn (Ollie), daughter Gail (Kent) and her grandchildren Jamie and Bradley. She is also survived by her sister Enid and brother Glenn (Donna) as well as many nieces and nephews. Wilma was predeceased by her sister Winona and her brothers-in-law Robbie McFarlane and Jim Durward. Mum grew up in Austin, Manitoba enjoying life with a large and close, extended family. After graduation from high school she attended normal school in Winnipeg and went on to start her teaching career in Harte, Manitoba. Mum met dad at a R.A.F. dance in Carberry, and they were married in 1943. In July 1944 mum moved to Britain to be with dad. They lived in Scotland until 1948 when they returned home to Manitoba to be near mum's family. Mum was an elementary school teacher for most of her working life but in 1979 decided that a career change was in order. She took a course and worked as a travel agent for several years. During that time, mum and dad traveled all over the world. After retirement they wintered in Florida, the Bahamas and most recently in Arizona. Mum and dad always worked and played as a team. They cleared the land at West Hawk Lake where their cottage stands and built it together from the ground up. They loved to dance and delighted everyone by getting up to fox trot at their 70th anniversary party in July. Mum was an avid golfer, enjoying all the camaraderie and the friendships she made over the years at the golf club. She loved every new adventure that came her way. Mum took up downhill skiing when she was in her 50s, went parasailing in her 80s and was never afraid to tackle a new activity. She had a zest for life that was second to none. Mum's main focus over the years was always her family. Her favourite times were always when we were all together. We will miss her encouragement and support, but most of all we will miss her endless love. Even over the last few months she never complained and was more worried about those around her than she was about herself. We would like to thank everyone for their tributes and kind words, the home care workers and the remarkable staff at Riverview Health Centre. We would especially like to thank mum's goddaughter Leslie and her husband David Meunier for their gentleness and care during her illness. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation at One Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. • To a family friend, neighbour and teacher: In looking back on Wilma's life there is no shortage of things to celebrate. In my memory Wilma is a smiling face that was an important part of the Morris family. As next door neighbours our family was often invited to the Morris family events. With Mrs. Joe (Annie) Morris, Winona, Wilma, Enid and Glenn the Morris family events were full of life and energy and Wilma always added to that energy. I smile when I think about everyone in the kitchen. She will be missed The Randall Family p.s. I sure hope this message does not contain any spelling errors as Wilma was my grade one teacher. - Posted by: Jim Randall (Friend, Neighbour and teacher) on: Sep 07, 2013
