ESTHER MARTHA LANTHIER (nee TYLER) (JENKINSON) Born on June 6, 1920, Esther passed away on September 6, 2013, in the Stonewall Hospital following a brief illness. She is survived by her son David Jenkinson (Rhea), grandsons Michael (Charlene), Dean (Nicole) and Mark (Michal-Joan), her great-granddaughters Nicole, Michelle, Audrey, Cara, great-grandson Casey, and honorary great-granddaughter Krystyna Kolesar. She is also survived by nephews Herb (Lynn), Randy (Bev), David and Jim (Lyn) Tyler; nieces Florence Tyler, Irene (Randy) Baxter and Candace Bosman; grand-nieces Ashley, Jacqueline and Kelsey, and grand-nephews Tony and Sean. She was predeceased by her brothers, Sam (Christine), Tom and Herb (Rita), and her parents, Herbert and Mary Ann Tyler, as well as her husbands, Dave Jenkinson and Wilfrid Lanthier. Known to many as "Jenkie" and to local children as "Grandma Lan", Esther was a teacher by profession and calling, beginning her career teaching on permit in a one-room school in Mulvihill. Following teachers' college, Esther taught elementary grades in Lundar, Norwood and Stonewall. Family, especially her interest in the lives of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, was a central focus of Esther's life. In her retirement, Esther enjoyed walking and gardening (especially lilies and roses) until both those activities were sadly curtailed due to age-associated mobility issues. A celebration of Esther's life will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street in Stonewall, MB on Saturday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. She will be missed for her humour and her love of children and family. Esther specifically requested no flowers, asking instead that her life be honoured through donations to charities benefitting children.
