Michael my condolences on the passing of Reesa, there are no words that I can use to express the loss and sadness you must be feeling. - Posted by: Terry Neplyk (business associate) on: Sep 25, 2013

Extending belated heartfelt sympathy to the Averbach family. I was deeply saddened to learn of Reesa's passing. For 10 years, Reesa was committed to the Canadian Cancer Society's annual April campaign. We appreciate her efforts in the fight against cancer. It is evident in the comments that others have made that Reesa made a difference in the lives she touched - she will be missed. - Posted by: Lynda Ruban (staff at the Canadian Cancer Society) on: Sep 24, 2013

Reesa brought an inspired passion and compassion to her role as the administrator for Kelvin High School’s particpation in The Asper Foundation Human Rights and Holocaust Studies Program. Her commitment to the school's students and human rights was evident each time I spoke with her. She made the world a better place because of her caring spirit. Her good work will continue through the many people she inspired throughout her life. She will be missed. - Posted by: Jeffrey Morry, Senior Program Manager, The Asper Foundation (Colleague) on: Sep 23, 2013

I had the privilege of knowing Reesa since I taught Abram at River Heights Junior High. We worked closely over the many years that she was associated with Kelvin High School’s Asper Human Rights and Holocaust Studies Program. Reesa was the heart and soul of that valuable course and those intense trips. If Kelvin, today, is the only school in the province that can boast a team of 10+ teachers all eager to teach a portion of that human rights curriculum, it is due in large measure to her drive, her consummate organisational skills and her willingness to dive into the nuts and bolts of getting young people ready for the unforgettable journey. There are hundreds of students that will remember her energy and her tireless reminders to get them out to Career Day and to Take Your Kids to Work Day. I will miss her wry humour, her realism, and her wonderful professional support. I will never forget her willingness to listen and care when my own wife was fighting her battle with cancer. It is that fight and Reesa’s work on behalf of human rights education that I pledge to continue in her honour, along with many others who will miss her dearly. - Posted by: Raymond Sokalski (Colleague) on: Sep 16, 2013

Reesa hired me as a Career Advisor at Grant Park High School. Reesa was then my reference when I moved on and is the reason I am in the professional place I am today. She was a wonderful lady and it breaks my heart that she's no longer with us. I owe a lot to her and my condolences go out to her family. - Posted by: Malissa Magorel (former co-worker) on: Sep 16, 2013

I had the good fortune to work with Reesa at Kelvin, Churchill and Grosvenor School. She was an amazing educator who had tremendous insight into how work education needed to be part of a student's learning experience. Reese's dedication, hard work and knowledge provided thousands of young people with many opportunities to view the real world of work and develop their dreams and goals for the future. Reesa was a lovely friend and colleague. I always enjoyed our times together, social and work related. I send all her family and friends my deepest condolences. - Posted by: Helen Strock (Friend and colleague ) on: Sep 15, 2013

I worked with Reesa at kelvin high school and also had the pleasure of teaching her daughter. We became good friends in both capacities. Reesa pulled me into her projects at school and showed me the real world really does make a difference in the classroom. She introduced me to Dr. Mark Torchia and we three designed a unit on cells and cancer, the immune system and history of medicine. Really....Reesa was brilliant. I am so sorry not to be able to attend on Monday. I am away on a family emergency myself. I will set aside some time on Monday to be with you all. Much love to the family.
