PETER GEORGE LANGSTAFF
Date of Passing: Sep 07, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER GEORGE LANGSTAFF It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Peter Langstaff on September 10, 2013 at his home a week before his 54th birthday. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his three brothers and their families: John (Barbara MacDonald), Martyn and Rhys; David (Debra), James, Joseph and Brooke; and Mark (Mieke Vonderbank), Yolanda, all of Winnipeg. Peter will also be missed by his aunt and uncle, Jean and Larry Matrick, of Vancouver, B.C., along with many cousins and extended family and his close friends. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Shirley and Joseph Langstaff, and his uncle, Rev. Bruce McNeill. Peter's roots were firmly entrenched in Westwood. He grew up on Westwood Drive and attended Westwood Collegiate. After high school, Peter's career path took him in many different directions. He was a heavy equipment operator, a Journeyman Electrician and a long-distance truck driver. He worked in Trail, B.C. for Cominco and later in Vancouver, B.C. as an electrician. He performed long-distance hauls down to the southern United Sates and drove winter roads in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. He had adventures but he was always happy to come home. In 1997 he joined Boeing Canada where he worked for five years and then in 2003 he took a job with Manitoba Hydro and moved to Gillam, MB. A year ago he returned to Winnipeg to work at the Dorsey Hydro Station. Peter had an abiding loyalty to his friends and family. He always took a keen interest in his nieces and nephews and would be in their cheering section at sporting events whenever possible. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and was proud of his Master Angler Certificate for hooking a 29 inch Walleye in the Red River. A perfect day for Peter would be a day spent fishing topped off by an evening of poker with his friends. Peter was a thoughtful, caring soul and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Peter's life will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Peter's memory may be made to The Canadian Wildlife Federation, The Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of one's choosing. I worked with Pete at Cominco in Trail and we had a lot of laughs together. We used to get in trouble a lot with the "bosses" in the Old Tank Rooms, but they never got the best of us. I really liked Pete and I can still remember where he was living when I went to visit him before he left Trail to go back home. We wrote a couple letters back and forth, but I have never forgotten him as a friend. I am not sure really, but we seemed to have a bond that was much deeper than the time we actually spent together in our early days. I always hoped I would run into Pete again, to say hi and see how things were going. Even tonight, I am here at Cominco working nightshift and Pete popped into my head, so I Googled his name. I am so terribly sad to see my friend has passed away. My heart is broken and I feel terribly for his family and nieces and nephews. I would like to offer my sincerest condolences. God Bless ... John, David, Mark & Families. Please know how very saddened I am for the loss of your brother Peter. Peter was a very special man and he touched my life with his brilliance, kindheartedness, honesty, humour and remarkable attitude. Our time spent in Trail BC, upgrading the entire electrical wiring in my house, and walks through St. Charles Golf Course are just some of my memorable reflections. May the sorrow you feel in your hearts lighten by the love that surrounds you. - Posted by: Stephen Cholakis (Friend Forever) on: Sep 18, 2013

I and all of Peter's old friends have been in disbelief of the news of his untimely passing. I have countless memories of Peter from the years gone by, especially of all the fishing trips on the May long weekends with the crew. Years, jobs and location separate friends but the memories are always close to heart. Gonna miss ya. - Posted by: Tim Hauff (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2013
