VICTOR RONALD BANTLE
Born: May 31, 1937
Date of Passing: Sep 07, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR RONALD BANTLE May 31, 1937 - September 7, 2013 It is with aching hearts we announce the passing of Victor Bantle who was predeceased by his beloved spouse Mona and survived by his son Robin (Candace) and his daughter Belinda (Alf), who were by his side holding his hands. Victor was born to John and Elizabeth Bantle in Prince Albert, SK and was blessed to have four brothers Al, Arnold, Anthony, Ray and three sisters Tina, Angela and Betty. Tina is the only surviving sibling. Tina and Vic kidded each other recently about who would be the first to "slip on the banana peel"! As most Saskatchewan kids did, Vic grew up playing and loving hockey on the frozen ponds of the prairies becoming a talented goalie and was soon scouted by the New York Rangers. As a young man his eye became drawn to the sky which eventually led him to join the R.C.A.F. to attain his wings and become a pilot and officer obtaining Major status. While stationed in Winnipeg he caught the attention of a local beauty name Mona and they soon married and started their life abroad in Nottingham, England, where Vic was posted with the R.C.A.F., and travelled the world extensively. Soon Robin and Belinda came along and the family settled in Winnipeg where they made many friends and had great times and enjoyed life to the fullest. Dad's career continued in aviation, working at Transport Canada for many years, managing the Manitoba Government Air Services and then as an Aviation Consultant. Dad was an amazing golfer achieving two hole-in-ones and still had a great game up to the week before he became ill. Dad's whole life centred around his family and was truly "Clark Griswold", the original family man, taking our family on many memorable camping and golfing vacations. Dad treasured the company of his family, relatives and friends, always having "dining in nights" on holidays and throughout the year. We always looked forward to, and will remember, his "famous" roasts. Anyone that met Vic was touched by his warmth, generosity and great personality. We will miss him greatly and know that he is always by our side and in our hearts. In keeping with Vic's wishes, cremation and a private family ceremony has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully encouraged to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation; the D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre; or, if you can, please make a blood donation in Vic's memory to the Canadian Blood Services. We would like to express our extreme gratitude to the ICU team at Grace Hospital and the MICU team at the Health Sciences Centre. "God Bless you Dad, you've earned your wings now you are free to fly with angels"

I was looking for the phone number for Vic to add to the phone list for my mom. I am so, so sorry to have not known about this - and sad. Vic was a wonderful man and had a unique sense of humour. I bet he and my dad had a great time catching up. My heartfelt condolences to all of you. - Posted by: Candace Carnie (Friend) on: Jun 27, 2018

Just today I learned of Vic's passing. My condolences to you Belinda and Robin and the family. Well, what can I say about your dad. What a great guy, I just loved being around him, period. Vic hired me at Transport Canada, and he was a great boss, and became a greater friend over the years. He and I T'd it up several times, went on fishing trips, and flew together and I had the pleasure of trying to drill the puck through your dad's body, but it just bounced back, ha. I will always remember your dad's ways, always a big smile, a gentle word of wisdom, great sense of humour, sharp wit and his love for his family. I am so happy I stopped by his place in 2012 to say hi and catch up even though he was very tired from the drive from LaRonge I believe but yet he had time and a smile for me. I have many many great and warm memories of your dad, I was then and will always be proud to call him, FRIEND!!!!! - Posted by: Brian Dick (Friend) on: Dec 23, 2014

I was sorry to hear of Vic's passing. I first met Vic on one of his many fishing trips to Albert's cabin in La Ronge. I will always remember those times with a smile. . Hot hot nights dining on very hot food and having rum and water to wash it down. We had excellent times telling our tales and having those great parties. Fly high Vic. We miss you. - Posted by: Scott Christiansen (Friend) on: Sep 22, 2013

As a close friend of son Robin, I had the pleasure of spending some time with Vic over the years. I always looked forward to going to his place for a visit, dinner and maybe even a few martinis. He was always so uplifting with his big smile and infectious laughter. He really was a one of a kind type of person who will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to have known him. I am deeply sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Keith Advice () on: Sep 19, 2013

Our prayers for Vic on his new journey, and for Robin & Candace, Belinda & Alf as you celebrate Vic's life and the memories. My early memories of Vic coming to Ray Bantle family home (Edmonton) for visits during his trips north when he was with Transport Canada. Fishing trips to Lac La Ronge with the Bantle Brothers and my cousins. Time spent with Vic learning wood working tips and refinishing antiques - that i have passed on to my children. Invites to Vic Bantle Family dinners. My wife and children also remember the hospitality we enjoyed on a visit to Vic and Mona's home for a weekend and the joyous family dinners. We will miss his smile, laugh and enthusiasm for life. - Posted by: Gord Bantle & Family ((Youngest Son of Ray Bantle - Ray was Vic's Older Brother)) on: Sep 17, 2013

We were next door neighbors on Woodgreen Place back in the 70's. We have many fond memories of the Bantle family - especially all the crazy parties. Thank God we partied like that when we could! And who could forget the Father/Son Boxing Day road hockey tournaments - legendary! Even made the CBC coverage! Our thoughts are with you all, George, David and Lorraine MacKay. - Posted by: George MacKay & Family ((old neighbors)) on: Sep 16, 2013

I was in total disbelief when I heard of your dads passing. Even though its been years since I last saw him it was as if nothing changed when we sat and visited. His heart was pure and his laughter golden. I will always remember the "cover of the Rolling Stones" which we sang at the famous golf tournament and where your dad treated me like a member of your family. It will be a hard hole to fill; however he always lived life to the fullest and that is a great memory to have. Love you both and I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Marlene Nehring Watts (Neighbour and friend) on: Sep 14, 2013

I met your father at the place that I work. He would drop in while waiting for your Mom when she was in a treatment at the Grace Hospital and even came in after your Mom's passing. He always had a smile that lit up my heart. I will remember how he always made me feel special for those few moments and will truly miss him. He was a very special individual. My sympathy goes out to you and your families. - Posted by: Judie Moralee (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2013

How saddened I was to learn of Vic's passing in today's Obituaries. It is impossible to add further sentiments to such a well written tribute to Vic's life. Suffice to say, he was so devoted to his family and so very proud of them and obviously the feelings were more than mutual. - Posted by: Joy Buettner (family friend) on: Sep 14, 2013
