Date of Passing: Sep 12, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON KENNETH (KEN) LITTLE Passed away peacefully with his family at his side on September 12, 2013. Dad is predeceased by his loving wife and best friend Shirley, and brother-in-law Alex Lawrence. Survived by his daughters Karen (Craig) with grandchildren Amanda (Adam), James and Haley of Edmonton, Glenda (Lindee) of Regina, Laura (Joe) with grandchildren Raegan and Damon of Calgary; son Gordon (Donna) and grandchildren Ashleigh, Braeanne, Cameron, Sheryl (Paul), Kara and Arianna of Edmonton; sister-in-law Geri (Elmer) Lawrence of Ardrossan, AB, and nephews Barrie (Mary Lee) Ledoux of Whitehorse and Spike (Wayne) Ledoux of Calgary. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. Dad met Mom in 1955, they married in 1957 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary September 7, 2007. Dad was an accomplished athlete with two Brier appearances representing Manitoba in 1964 and 1967, playing second on the Bruce Hudson rink; and induction into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. The Manitoba Hall had this to say, "As the Second World War drew to a close, a remarkable athletic career, spanning six decades, began. From minor hockey championships in the early 1940s to senior curling competition at the turn of the century, Ken Little was truly an all-round athlete. While many athletes participate in several sports during their careers, most excel in one or two at best. Little excelled in five: hockey, track and field, football, baseball and curling." In 2000, Dad was named one of five finalists for Manitoba Male Amateur Athlete of the Century. However, his greatest accomplishment was being a loving and supportive husband and a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Dad was a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte from 1952 to 1989 as a partner in Winnipeg, and managing partner in Prince George and Regina, retiring to Kelowna in 1990 where he continued to curl and golf. Dad was also a long-time Rotarian, who exemplified the intent of the Rotary's Four-Way Test. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the caring staff and physicians in the ICU at Kelowna General Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road in Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, #4 - 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9. Dear Shirley and Ken. My personal community is much diminished with our loss of Ken. Almost missed the notice, but something made me check this item for "Gordon". I can still see Ken and Fred Dunsmore trying to wear out a baseball, back and forth, in the lane behind our family home at 1102 Downing until Orville's whistle called a stop, for dinner! Ken's home was just a block away on Dominion Street. Last actual meeting was around the 1970s when Ken and Shirley were with us at 43 Red Robin in St. James to enjoy a get together with Tannis and Bill Ferguson, Bill a Commerce associate. Another moment from the past, my good friend, sprinter George Chapman, has mentioned seing the back of Ken's head at Track & Field Days - Ken could run like a deer! I recall with great personal satisfaction while Ken would never remember, that my team beat Ken's in an after class curling match, likely at the Heather Rink (now replaced by housing). I remember it well, but Ken is the one who went on to win cars! Winnipeg has had its share of wonderful people, some athletic like Ken Little - appreciated, loved and admired by so many of his contemporaries. R.I.P. good friend. - Posted by: Harold McCort (Friend) on: Sep 18, 2013

Ken was a great friend for 23 years. We have great memories of our times together in curling, golfing, travels, and many family and social events. Ken was as much an all round gentleman as he was an all round athlete. His versatility in hockey, track, football, baseball and curling was amazing and he will be missed. Our sympathies to his family and friends. - Posted by: Rick Brownlee (MB Sports Hall of Fame) on: Sep 17, 2013
