MARY LOUISE JONES (DIXON) Mary Louise Jones, daughter of Wilfred and Leone Dixon born on their farm June 23, 1924 went to her eternal peace September 16, 2013 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg. Left to cherish her memory are her children Jerry (Maureen), Ken (Sandra), Vallerie (Gavin Scott), and Vernon; also seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her brothers: Don (Betty), Frank (Maxine); her sisters: Kaye (Don), Joan, Claire (Ray) and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her sisters Maxine, Joyce (Ron), Irene (Bill), brother-in-law Bill Challis and Jerry's first wife Diane Snell. Mary grew up in Elkhorn where she enjoyed many social activities with family and friends. She worked on the farm and as a nurses aide at the Elkhorn hospital. Mary moved to Winnipeg in 1973 where she worked with Homecare and made many new friends. Mary loved watching sports, number one was curling when she would view two TVs at once not to miss a shot! Mary's greatest joy was her family; she loved to have them visit and could listen to their banter for hours. She enjoyed a good laugh. Mary loved and was loved by the Riverview family and we would like to express our deepest gratitude for their care and kindness. A graveside service will be held October 26, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Elkhorn Cemetery with a lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Ave., Winnipeg R3L 2P4 would be greatly appreciated.

  • So sorry to hear about Mary's passing. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Karen and Ken Walpole (Family of family) on: Sep 29, 2013

  • It started as a nurse-patient relationship but later on, it was more than that. She gave me lectures about life, the dos and don'ts, and promised she would teach me do paper tole (she made one amazing owl piece that every staff admires). She always give me an earful whenever I take a week off work and when that time that I told her I was moving to another facility, I got an even longer one and was told I was "abandoning" her but later on wished me luck and told me to be good. I promised I would visit and bring her favorite ginger cookies and chow mein but... I am sorry, sister, I was too late. Last Friday, I was at work, and I had the urge to call you. You gave me your number when I left, remember? I didn't know why but that night, I couldn't settle down so I did dial your number but no one answered. I felt the weirdest chill down my spine, I hung up and said "goodbye sister" and then I was fine. Until I saw the obituary the next day. To Mary's family, my deepest sympathy. I will miss her. - Posted by: Sister () on: Sep 23, 2013
