Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET ELIZABETH WHEELAN (née KITCHING) On September 20, 2013, after a short illness, Margaret passed away at Scarborough General Hospital. Daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Kitching, Marg was in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) Wheelan, she will be greatly missed by daughter Patricia, son Michael, grandchildren Cameron and Kate and their mother, Cynthia De Pelham. Margaret was also predeceased by her brother, Edgar (Bud) Kitching, niece Lorna Mae and nephew Bruce. Margaret was born in Rathwell, Manitoba and, with her family, moved to Winnipeg in the late 1920s. Following graduation from Gordon Bell High School in the midst of the Depression, she worked as a dental assistant in Winnipeg. Following the Second World War, Marg ventured north to Fort Churchill to work for Defence Research Northern Laboratory, where she met her husband. Married in 1953, she and Bob experienced various communities, large and small, throughout Canada as they followed his career as a specialist in heavy construction management. Settling in Toronto in the early 1970s, Margaret worked as a bookkeeper and then, until her retirement in 1982, worked at Birks Jewellers. Despite the years spent in the East, she remained a prairie girl at heart and maintained a strong connection with Winnipeg. Thank you to the staff at Bendale Acres who took care of Margaret during the last four years of her life. Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery, Treherne, Manitoba on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
