Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I will always remember the songs around campfires. Some of the same songs are sung around the world, but they need you to teach them the RIGHT tune. You always had the willingness to step in and help, always her encouraging words given to the girls, the support given to the adults and presence felt. Rest in Peace Effie. - Posted by: Lin Lahey (sister in guiding) on: Sep 30, 2013

  • I met Effie in Guiding at Portage la Prairie while teaching at a Maple Leaf Training 31 years ago. She and I were both doing some training over the weekend and have been friends ever since. Seems whatever I was involved in Guiding so was Effie. We both chose quite different paths in Guiding but seems we were so often on the same event, committee or training. Effie had a very happy disposition which made it so easy to learn from and to work with. Effie was a true Girl Guide and lived her Promise and law to her end. I will truly miss you Effie. my friend! - Posted by: Pat Mann (Friend+Guiding Sister) on: Sep 26, 2013

  • I remember the first time I met Effie. I was District Commissioner and she was a new volunteer. I went to her apartment and gave her some info. We became friends and attended the first ever Prairie Crocus (Stage III). We joined up to do a presentation on the Promise and Law. That was the beginning of a long association. I remember her at a camp at Birds Hill where we were training Guiders in camping expertise. Effie was always eager to learn new skills. I will miss Effie, her enthusiasm, and her laughter. • I always looked for Effie at annual. Effie did most of my training when I started in Guiding some 27 years ago. She was always so much fun and her love of music was evident. I will never forget her doing "The Dance of Seven Capers" at an arts training in Dauphin. I will miss Effie, she was a true "Sister in Guiding". - Posted by: Evelyn Paddock (Sister in Guiding) on: Sep 26, 2013
