DR. DOUGLAS C. GILLESPIE June 27, 1926 - September 25, 2013 Doug died suddenly in the early morning of September 25. He is survived by Rosalie, his wife of 59 years, his daughters Janet and Megan, and son Alan. Doug had obtained a PhD in microbiology and biochemistry from Western Reserve University in 1960. He worked as a research scientist for Agriculture Canada at the Experiment Farms in Ottawa from 1960 to 1967. In 1967 he then took a position as a research scientist at the Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg. From 1976 to 1982 he worked at Wardrop Engineering, then from 1983 to 1990 at Manitoba Hydro. In both jobs he was the environmental officer. He enjoyed reading, and for a number of years grew orchids. In his later years developed a liking for TV. There will be an informal gathering in his memory sometime in the next week or so. No flowers are necessary, but please feel free to send mom a card or give her a call. From our family: Laugh, cry, pile up some autumn leaves and jump into them. Enjoy life and live it to the fullest, because sometimes it seems too short.
