MARTHA BLAWAT (nee ZECHEL) December 16, 1919 - October 1, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Martha Blawat on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 93 years. Martha was predeceased by her husband Peter and daughter Theresa, brothers Reinhold, Paul, Friedrick, and Robert and sister-in-law Flora. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Clara, son Peter (Jean), grandson Paul, granddaughter Kristel (Norm) and their children Scarlette and Xavier. Also mourning her passing are her sister Olga Claas (sons Robert and Reinhardt) in Germany and her nephews Herbert and Robert Zechel and their families in Edmonton, AB. Martha, born in Poland, came to Canada in May of 1949 with her two small children, Peter and Theresa, to join her husband who had immigrated earlier. The family took up residence in the North End and once the children entered school, Martha became a long-time employee of Western Glove working as a seamstress until retiring in 1981. After her retirement, gardening became her passion. Martha was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family celebrations were important to her, especially birthdays. She never forgot a birthday and was always the first one to call with greetings. She was a kind, caring, and compassionate person; people were drawn to her. She liked to joke with people and an ever-present twinkle in her eyes gave evidence of her terrific sense of humour. Martha was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and over the last few years she enjoyed attending the Inkster Seniors Group at Christ Lutheran Church where she had many friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 4, 5th floor of the Seven Oaks General Hospital for their excellent care and support during Martha's hospitalization. Thank you also to our friends and neighbours for all your prayers and support. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1142 Main Street. Interment in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Cropo Funeral Chapel 204-586-8044
