MANUEL FINK On October 3, 2013, Manny passed peacefully at age 88. He is lovingly remembered by Pearl, his wife of 65 years, children Steven, Gail Katz (Alex) and David (Brenda), grandchildren Jordan, Rory (Crystal), Geoffrey and Ashley (Lee), great-grandchildren TJ, Jace and Paetyn, and sister Fay Rykiss (Ben). Predeceased by parents Clara and Sam. Born in Lwow, Poland, he immigrated to Winnipeg as an infant. Raised in the North End, he attended Peretz School and St. John's Tech where he excelled in athletics including football, as a member of the Tigers. After high school, Manny served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. While on a weekend pass and visiting family in New York City he met Pearl, started a three year long distance courtship and married in 1948. After his service, he attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. Manny owned and operated the family business, Winnipeg Sewing Machine, until retiring at age 72. He balanced his work life with his athletics and very active social life with his many friends and family. He enjoyed family outings including skating, tobogganing and visits to the cottage. Manny was a longtime Mason and Shriner and member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He gave much time to volunteer work at the Sharon Home where he was fondly remembered by staff many years later when he himself became a resident. Graveside service was held October 6. Pallbearers were Jordan and Rory Katz, Lindsay Berger, Mark and Neil Rykiss and Murray Gilfix. Honorary pallbearers were Geoffrey Kirkland, Laurie Mainster and Morris Chapnick. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care Manny received by the staff of the Simkin Centre. Also, many thanks to everyone at the Shaftesbury for their care, compassion and friendship. If desired, donations may be made to Jewish Child and Family Service, Winnipeg Pet Rescue or a charity of your choice.
