THOMAS WHITE HOTSON 1934 - 2013 Peacefully, with family at his side, Thomas Hotson passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the age of 79. Tom's generous and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of his family - devoted wife Margaret (nee Dempster), son Kevin (Brenda), daughters Heather Owen (Michael), Laurie (Brad), and Janet (Todd). He will also be forever loved and remembered by his nine grandchildren, four great-grand-children, sisters-in-law, Lillian (Ray) and Mary, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tom was predeceased by his sons, James, Charles, and Russell, and brother Ross. Tom was born on February 28, 1934 in Winnipeg. He married his soulmate on April 7, 1956, and they have been happily married for 57 years. Tom was a very proud father with an outgoing personality and a big heart. In the earlier years, Tom loved to round up the neighborhood kids along with his own and take them to play ball. Friends and family were always welcome in his home. Tom loved helping and interacting with his neighbours. Many happy times were spent at the Hotsons. Pleasures in life included: smooching with his wife, cooking, music, walking, woodworking, gardening, renovating (while Margaret was away), shopping, shopping, shopping, spending time at the beach and lake, playing with his pets, and sharing a couple of "Rusty Nails". Tom worked for the CN and Via Railway for 43 years as a locomotive engineer. He loved his work which took him across the countryside. Lifelong friendships were formed and he kept in touch via the monthly retiree breakfasts. We would to thank the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital and River Ridge Retirement Residence for their compassionate care. A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Assoc., or Dream Factory. • My deepest sympathy at your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have memories from long ago of your Dad and Mom (who worked with my Mom (Lillo)at Sear's until her passing in 1981. I don't believe I ever saw your Dad without a smile and his obituary describes him so very well! He will be missed by so many. ASCENSION And if I go while you're still here... Know that I live on Vibrating to a different measure. Behind a veil you cannot see through. You will not see me, so you must have faith. I wait for the time when we can soar together again both aware of each other. Until then, live life to its fullest! When you need me, just whisper my name in your heart. I will be there. -Colleen Cora Hitchcock - Posted by: Cheryl Foss (Family friend) on: Oct 14, 2013

  • So sorry to hear of Mr Hotson's passing. I was one of those welcomed kids and loved being at the "Hotsons home for Wayward Kids" as we called it. One of my greatest memories was when Tom made dinner for us. This particular night it was Sweet and Sour Pickerel Cheeks with rice shaped in a measuring cup and carefully placed on the plate. He was such a great cook and so proud of his creations. Even with all the trials he and Marg went through they always had love to share. Thoughts and prayers are with the family. - Posted by: Debbie Hopkins (Stein) (One of the "Wayward Kids") on: Oct 09, 2013
