Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

I have known Doña Maria since 1989 when I started dating her son Boris. She was very welcoming to me and patient as I practiced my Spanish with her. After her husband Abraham's passing, I helped renovate their condo for sale. Maria and I had the best conversations while I was faux finishing the walls with some potent paint - we laughed that I had never spoken so fluently. She definitely spoiled us when we all lived together on MacMillan Street - coming home after work to a clean apartment with a delicious dinner ready on the stove was wonderful. She taught me to make her trademark dinners of fish or chicken in a broth of vegetables - so simple, delicious and nutritious - which I continue to make for myself. I expect that her healthy eating habits contributed to her longevity. When we all moved into separate apartments on Roslyn Road we stayed very close neighbours so sharing of meals and stories continued. The spicy Chilean dishes she made on occasion will always stay in my sensory memory - I wish I had written down the recipe. When I was first seconded to Ottawa in 1998, Maria came over to my apartment every day for close to a year to feed my 2 cats Harley and Zac. I hope that they were good company for each other. I am forever in her debt for this and so many of her kindnesses. Since finally moving to Ottawa in 2001, my visits with Maria became infrequent but were an important stop for me to make every time I came to Winnipeg. I regret that my trips this year were so focussed on caring for my own elderly parents that I wasn't able to visit Maria in her last days. Be at peace, dear friend. Memories of you come to me on a daily basis. You will never be forgotten. Condolences to the Waissbluth and Guijon families. - Posted by: Leesa Sereda (Friend) on: Dec 09, 2013

solo me queda decir que, tuve el agrado de conocerla y compartir con ella cuando mi hija jacque y boris me invitaron a pasar unos dias en WINNIPEG; en el cual en uno de esos dias me invito a su departamento, es lo unico que puedo comentar. - Posted by: maria teresa rivera bustos (consuegra) on: Oct 10, 2013
