CLAIRE WILLIAM MILLER Helping fix things and making them go Born January 29, 1926 in Starbuck, Manitoba, Claire William Miller died peacefully, Tuesday, October 8, 2013 surrounded by the love of his family. The youngest of five children, he was predeceased by his sister Rev. Marguerite, brothers Leonard (Elva), Gilbert (Lil), and Alvin (Betty). Claire is survived by his cherished and loving wife of 62 years, Irene (Southon), daughter Karen (Doug Pooley), sons Craig, Rod (Mary Lou) and daughter Anne; and adored grandchildren Cody, Catie, Quinn and Avery. Claire was a proud and loving father and grandfather, committed to supporting his family and friends in all their endeavors. He believed strongly in giving back to his community and country as evidenced by his service in the Air Force as well participation with many community organizations - United Way, Manitoba Club, Children's Aid Society, Blue Bombers Football Club, Rotary Club of Winnipeg, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Theatre Centre and many others to whom he extended his personal support and generosity. A lover of sports, he loved golf, curling, and chasing geese especially with Ping, Dr. Tom, and his sons. Since his passing, we've been warmed by the kind words from so many people. Clearly, our father was universally well liked and viewed with great respect. He was known as a man who knew what he wanted, and had a clear vision of what he thought was the right path to take. He always took the high road and encouraged us to be the best we could be. He liked to help people and he helped so many without anyone knowing he did it. He loved to play games with his grandchildren and always made them feel special. His gregarious hugs and beaming smiles will be missed you know the ones, the ones that made his eyes" crinkly" - as his granddaughters say Good bye to the Silver Fox, Mr. Hi De Ho, Poppa. We will miss you. Memorial service will be held at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honour of Claire to United Way Winnipeg, or a charity of your choice.
