ALEXANDER ELLIOT LAIDLAW 1924 - 2013 On Tuesday, October 8, 2013 Alexander Elliot Laidlaw fell asleep in death at the age of 88 years. Alexander is survived by his wife Dorothy of 67 years; brother Ian (Betty); sisters-in-law Rita Laidlaw, Mildred Devries and their families; and his grandchildren Brennan, Jordan and Alia. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Janet; brothers Graham and Jack; and son Alan. On December 1, 1924 Alex was born in Winnipeg. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1937 and began serving as a full-time minister in Neepawa, Manitoba in 1940. In 1946 he married his life-long companion Dorothy Sulkers and together they embarked on a life of service to their God, Jehovah. In 1949 they graduated from the 13th class of Gilead, and were assigned as missionaries to Uruguay, where they served for five years. After returning to Canada he worked at CBC and Bodner Plumbing in Winnipeg until his retirement. Alex loved the outdoors, and in his later years he enjoyed fishing and camping with his grandchildren. He was also a serious student of the Bible. He and Dorothy loved to share the truths of God's Word with others, including the Bible's promise of a resurrection to a paradise earth when "no resident will say: "I am sick" (John 5:28, 29, Isaiah 33:24). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 937 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family would like to sincerely thank those who visited Alex and for the practical assistance that so many provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204 897 4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We are so very sad and sorry to lose our loved brother. How wonderful the next time we will see him will be in God's Kingdom in Paradise. He was such a big help to my sons who after having lost their Dad away from the truth Br. Alec Laidlaw came to help my sons Chris and Brad Solylo to know all about Jehovah. My boys well respected and loved him as I am very sure many many more youngsters did. His calm demeanor was such a help to many of us. He had a great sense of humor and very quick to get the humor from many others. There was no better Watchtower conductor who drew out the important points we needed to be aware of. Really there was no finer man. And how he loved Jehovah his God right to the end. What a fine man and brother and Witness of Jehovah. - Posted by: Lynn nee (Simpovich Solylo) Newlin (Respect for a wonderful brother to our family) on: Oct 16, 2013
