Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Mr. De Jersey is an unforgettable force in my life. He made it easy for me to do math. He had early classes before school for anyone who didn't understand. I attended and became much more confident. His teaching made me feel like I could do something well. Through his teaching, I was able to develop self esteem and a pattern whereby if I just kept at it, the answers would come. There was a spiritual element that was awakened by him. I am forever grateful and I wish him peace and love. - Posted by: Dale Williams (Student Math Grade 10) on: Aug 22, 2018

  • Mr. D J was easily my favorite teacher at Churchill High. His sense of humor made our class fun ... and before you knew it, you'd learned something. You were a good man, DJ... a good man. - Posted by: Barbara (Lee) Hicks (student) on: Jul 01, 2015

  • Mr DJ was one of my teachers back at Churchill High School. He was one of my favourite teachers. He had a great sense of humour and a fairness about him that many people could take a lesson from. He made a difference in my life and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know him. - Posted by: Patrick Devlin (Student) on: Oct 29, 2013

  • Math always reminds me of Mr DeJersey and his amazing personality. He was one of my favorite teachers at Churchill High School because he knew what he was teaching, he knew how to teach, he knew how to run a classroom, and he knew if you were telling the truth saying you were sick the night before and couldn't do your homework. He was excellent at reading his students and as someone commented-he was a no-nonsense teacher and I add, "with a Paul Lynden" type sense of demur and humour. I graduated the year he retired and was in his home room that year so it was a special year for all us students with him. I think one of the greatest things he taught me was to get up to the board and do the problem even if you didn't have a clue how to do it...you knew you would be razzed a bit by the other students but Mr Dejersey would make you walk through the math problem till you finished that one on the board...don't run away from what you don't know...just keep plugging away till you finish it. I still do this in my life with many problems so I am grateful for him teaching me this way of dealing with problems. He was very much respected and will be remembered fondly. My condolenses to his family. - Posted by: Lianne Chmelnytzki-Kilfoyle (Student) on: Oct 17, 2013

  • Rip mr de jersey. You were my favorite teacher (grad 78) and a great asst. Golf coach. You were truly one of the good guys - Posted by: mike dufault (student) on: Oct 17, 2013

  • Mr. De Jersey was a great teacher to whom he taught me English. He is as was mentioned, a great interest in the students that cared to do well. He was also a serious teacher when teaching but had a funny humor to students that showed respect for him. I liked him very much as well as many others did in Garden City School in West Kildonan. We were sorry to move on to another teacher. So very sorry for your loss to all his family. Hope he left you with a lot of good memories as we had. Thank you again for Mr. De Jersey being our teacher whom we appreciated. - Posted by: Lynn nee Simpovich Newlin (Student) on: Oct 16, 2013

  • RIP Uncle Harold. You will be missed by all who knew you. Sorry for your loss Don and Jim. - Posted by: David Maurice de Jersey (nephew) on: Oct 16, 2013

  • Harold and I have worked together at Churchill high school for over 20 years. He is a good bridge player and used to share his naval stories with us. A good story teller and friend. He will be sorely missed. - Posted by: David Chow (a very good friend and a 30 year plus bridge pardner) on: Oct 16, 2013

  • RIP Mr. DeJ! One of the many wonderful teachers I remember fondly from my years at Churchill High. DeJ had a great sense of humour, and was always ready to help you when you needed a bit of support. He didn't take any nonsense, but always enjoyed dispensing a few jokes along with the learning. I was just talking about him with my daughter last week, telling her a few stories, and looking up his picture in my yearbook. He'll be remembered fondly by many students and friends and family, I'm sure! - Posted by: Krista Hope-Tindall (former student) on: Oct 16, 2013

  • MR D J was another great teacher at CHS. He was someone all students liked and respected. I loved his sense of humor. I was fortunate to see him recently and I'm so glad I did. My thoughts are with his family. - Posted by: Kelly Parker-Kluger (Student) on: Oct 16, 2013
