JACOB KORNELSEN PLETT Jacob (Jake) Kornelsen Plett, aged 88 of Blumenort, Manitoba passed away peacefully on October 13, 2013 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, Manitoba. He is survived by his loving wife Marie (nee Bartel) of almost 64 years, and their seven children, Marvin (Alviera), Eldin, Leroy (Liz), Wayne (Patsy), Eddy (Erna), Lynette, and Sharon (Sylvain Martel); eleven grandchildren: Barrette (Sandy), Rachel (Russ Friesen), Dale (Michelle), Kim (Steve Van Muyen), Ryan (Heather), Richelle, Sam (Tara), Tim (Tiffany), Nico, Yannick Martel and Jessica Martel, and twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers. Jake spent many years farming and working as a contractor in the Blumenort and Arborg areas. In later years he worked at various jobs in Steinbach and he and Marie served with the Evangelical Mennonite Conference working with Mennonites in the Chihuahua area of Mexico for seven years. Jake enjoyed woodwork and singing and was always an avid reader. Viewing will be held on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. with a celebration of Jake's life to follow at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba. A private family burial will take place prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Curtis Krahn and the staff of the Rest Haven Nursing Home.
