LLOYD MELVIN SEARCY, (SR) Lloyd Melvin Searcy, a kind and gentle soul, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the George Derby Centre in Burnaby, BC, nine years after suffering a debilitating stroke on November 20, 2004. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Olga, his sisters, Flo, Eddie, Margaret, Marion and June and his brothers George, Bill, Jack and Harry. He is survived by his three children, Rick (Pat), Lloyd (Judy) and Cathy (Paul), 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Jim Henrich and sister-in-law Francis Kisel. Dad was born in Winnipeg on March 1, 1926 and grew up in Headingley and later on Furby Street. He joined the RCAF at 17 and served in England, Holland and Belgium before returning to Winnipeg at the end of the war. He met, Olga, the love of his life, one day when she was babysitting next door to his sister Margaret's house where he was staying. About the same time, Dad joined the Post Office and was a letter carrier for 38 years before retiring in 1985. Over the years Dad enjoyed playing poker with the family, curling every Sunday during the winter and golfing after he retired and once even got a hole in one at the Harbourview Golf Course! Lloyd and Olga raised their three children in North Kildonan and Dad lived on Mark Pearce until his stroke in 2004. After retirement Mom and Dad enjoyed their cottage at Belair Properties in the summer and travelling to Hawaii, Palm Springs and finally Las Vegas during the winter months. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 22, 1997 just three months before Mom passed away from cancer; Dad has waited these 16 years to join her in eternal peace. The family would like to thank Frannie, Peter, Darcy and Bruce for the kindness they showed Dad during the years when he and Frannie were companions. He enjoyed Frannie's company very much and her cooking even more. Although he is finally at peace with Mom, we'll miss him every day. Cremation has taken place and Dad's ashes will be interned with Mom sometime in the Spring of next year.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Will always remember the fun times at Uncle Lloyd & Auntie Olga's, when Flo & Ross would come and park the trailer in the driveway for the summer. Our parents would play cards all night and the kids would run amok in the neighbourhood. G - Posted by: Gary Searcy (Nephew) on: Oct 21, 2013
