GLADYS SOBIESKI Peacefully on October 16, 2013 our beloved Gladys (Snooky) passed away at the Tache Centre at the age of 90 years. Gladys is survived by her brother Stanley (Dorothy); nieces Gloria, Terry, Jennifer and Judith. She was predeceased by her parents; brother Louie; sisters Nellie and Jennie; nephew Larry. Gladys was born at home in Winnipeg, weighing two and a half pounds with cerebral palsy, on October 27, 1922. She never walked a day in her life. She spent 41 years in the care of her sister Nellie and brother-in-law Nick. Afterwards she moved to Holy Family Home where she lived for 19 years. Gladys then moved to the Tache Centre where she lived for 31 years. Gladys attended oral classes in psychology, sociology and history at the University of Winnipeg. She was fluent in Ukrainian and Polish. She was an inspiration to us all and never complained about her disability. Her only regret was that she had to be dependent on others for help. Many thanks to the staff at the Tache Centre for their loving care of Gladys. Also, thanks to Carole, friend and volunteer, for spending time reading to Gladys and sharing lunch with her every week. Gladys will always be remembered as being a very special person in our hearts. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba Inc., 105 - 500 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3C 3X1.
