COLON (COLE) CAMERON SETTLE, Q.C. November 10, 1932 - October 16, 2013 In the presence of his loving wife Gloria, Cole Settle passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by wife Gloria Blacklaw; son Richard; daughter Elizabeth (Dawson) and his adored grand-children Thomas and Daniel Ives; sister Shelley Livesy. He will also be sadly missed by Gloria's children Brenda (Tom) Gittens; Lindy Morrow (Michael Embree); daughter-in-law Suzie Morrow and grandchildren. Cole was predeceased by his parents Stella (Cameron) and Colon Settle and by Gloria's son Patrick Morrow (1968 to 2013). Cole was born in Winnipeg and raised in Portage La Prairie. Cole graduated from United College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1954. He attended law school at the University of Manitoba where he graduated with honours and was subsequently called to the Manitoba Bar in 1959. He articled with Norman Clague Christie of Bowles & Christie where he practiced law for over 50 years through various partnerships, until his retirement in December 2012, from Inkster Christie Hughes LLP. Cole was appointed a Queen's Counsel for the Province of Manitoba in 1974. Cole was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending fall mornings in the marsh in pursuit of waterfowl. Consistent with his love of the outdoors, he was a longtime supporter of Ducks Unlimited Canada. Cole was also a proud member of the 78th Fraser Highlanders and the "Boy Barristers". Cole's many dear friends will miss his usual farewell "Bye Bye, have fun!" The family expresses their sincere thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their exceptional care and support. A celebration of Cole's life will take place on Monday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Lukes Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St. North. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or to D'Arcy's A.R.C.

To the Family, my deepest condolences of your loss of a really great man. Mr. Settle was my first boss in the legal field from 1989 to 2005. It was a joy and a pleasure working for him. He was like my second father. Not only was he and excellent boss but a great teacher. I would not still be in the legal field if it wasn't for him. His training took me far. I will always remember him and the things he taught me in this field. He may be gone but never forgotten. - Posted by: Benita Delfing (former secretary) on: Oct 21, 2013

To the family: I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. Mr. Settle has been my lawyer since about 1975, when I went through a very difficult divorce, with two children under 5 years of age. Mr. C. was always very kind and considerate of what I was going through emotionally at that time. One time, around 1976, when I couldn't work and wasn't able to drive because I was so ill with Crohn's disease, Mr. C. even took the time to bring documents that needed to be signed to my house in Cresentwood. Fortunately for me, I haven't needed Mr. Settle's services very often. However, in August 2012, my husband Dennis and I saw Mr. C. professionally after the accidental death of my son Michael Roberge on his way to Sturgis. Mr. C. was such a kind, thoughtful man, and I am so sorry to hear about his death. Dennis' and my sincere condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Doreen and Dennis Gower (Client) on: Oct 19, 2013
