WILLIAM DONALD MANNING December 31, 1950 - October 11, 2013 Suddenly on Friday, October 11, 2013, our husband, dad and best friend Bill passed away at home in the arms of his beloved wife Colleen, with his daughter Michelle by his side. He fought a brief but hard struggle with pancreatic cancer. Bill is also survived by his sister Sandra (Stanley) Nozick of Vancouver, BC, sister-in-law Cheryl (Ken) Shields of Winnipeg, MB. He also leaves to mourn his nephew Joel (Virginia) Nozick, nieces Leanne (Stephen and Avigail) Feldman, Kelly (Dave, Jhet and Lincoln) Bowen, and Jaimie (Kris, Clark and Blaise) Anton plus many aunts, uncles and cousins across Canada. He was predeceased by his mother Norma, his father Bill and two younger brothers, Corbett and Bobby. Bill was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. He worked for GNB/Exide Industrial Battery from August 1977 until his retirement September 30, 2012. His customers became his friends. Bill and Colleen retired to LaSalle, ON. Bill always referred to Windsor as a "Diamond in the rough". He loved the river walk, the LaSalle trails, the Essex Golf Club and Roseland Curling Club. He was so happy here and made many wonderful friends. To his family and friends, Bill was a man of unrelenting loyalty and kindness, always putting others first. He enriched our lives in countless ways. Bill's family would like to express their appreciation to Community Care Access Centre and a very special thank you to Marianne at Saint Elizabeth for your exceptional care, understanding and compassion towards Bill. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bill's life was held at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 895 Ouellette Avenue, Windsor, Ontario (519) 254-3223 on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. As a tribute to Bill, and his love of all animals, memorial donations to the Windsor/Essex Humane Society or to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. Please join us in remembering Bill by visiting his memorial at www.andersonfuneralhomewindsor.com. "Your pain and suffering are over Bill. We will love you for always and miss you forever."

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Colleen, I am so sorry, I didn't know that you had moved or that Bill was sick. He was the best. I was looking for the two of you in Creston. You think Bill and Gary are talking about Monday night wrestling? My heart is broken for you. - Posted by: Carrie Hekle (Friend) on: Nov 03, 2013

  • Dear Colleen, Michelle, Sandra, Stan and families: I am so sorry for your loss of Billy. I knew Billy when he was just a youngster when I hung out at their family home in Transcona with Sandra, one of my oldest friends. I remember Billy as a lively, energetic kid who was always around, friendly, smiling and fun-loving. It truly sounds like he grew up strong and never really changed in these very fundamental ways. The home the Mannings created was always welcoming and very warm. I miss those days of carefree friendships and family life. I hold you all in my thoughts and prayers especially at this time of grief and sorrow. Sincerely Donna Babey Cunningham, Toronto, Ontario - Posted by: Donna Cunningham (Babey) (Family Friend) on: Oct 28, 2013
