RALPH PATERSON With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather in the early morning hours of October 22, 2013 at the Health Science Centre at the age of 87. Dad will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 60 years Shirley, sister Betty (Don), his children Kim, Scott (Candyce), Mary Jane (John) all from Stonewall, grandchildren John and Cheryl (Gord), great-granddaughters Toni and Sophie and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his sister Margaret and son-in-law John. Dad was born and educated in Stonewall, enlisted in the Canadian army in 1944 and trained for the Pacific theatre with the PPCLI in Vernon, BC. He joined the Manitoba Power Commission in Selkirk in 1947 where he worked for over 32 years retiring in April of 1981. Retirement allowed dad to pursue a second career in farming in partnership with the help of his son Scott. Dad was active in the Stonewall Agricultural Society, Hydro X, K40 and the Legion; he loved to travel to Victoria for the winter. Dad and mom enjoyed many travels together including: East coast, Alaska, West coast, Arizona, Florida and Mexico and Clear Lake in the summer. Dad traveled back to his home land of England and Scotland in the 1990s. He spent many hours gardening and loved to golf with his good friends. The week prior to his passing he was still doing what he loved best - actively helping on the farm Dad dedicated his life to his family, making sure they were taken care of and that they were safe, healthy and happy. Dad always had the time to listen and give us support. He loved to go for a drive to visit his kids and grand-dogs. Funeral service will be held at the Stonewall United Church, 614 3rd Street West on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or MS Society of Manitoba, Suite 100-1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8. The family wishes to give special thanks to the Stonewall Emergency Response Unit and the doctors and especially the nurses in the Medical Intensive Care/CCU and Ward 7GH at Health Sciences Centre. • Ralph, you were indeed a special person. When we moved in to the area (my that was over 40 years ago) and lived next to you and Shirley and the kids, you welcomed us and offered us friendship and support that we truly appreciated. Our thoughts and memories of you remind us of your redeeming qualities. We have always considered you such a genuine first class person who took a genuine interest in others and how they were doing in life. You were a gentleman and someone who showed such class in dealing with the cards life dealt you. Thank you Ralph for being kind and understanding to us. God bless.
