ELEANOR MAZEPA (nee SULLIVAN) With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Eleanor Joan Mazepa on October 22, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Eleanor was born and raised in Winnipeg. She married John Mazepa in 1945 and they lived and worked in Winnipeg, except for 10 years when they owned and operated the Kona Motel in Anaheim, California. In her younger years, Eleanor was an athlete excelling as a sprinter, winning many awards. As their son Richard was growing up, Eleanor was always supportive of his sporting activities. Her love of sports continued throughout her life- her knowledge of any sport was amazing. In addition to sports, Eleanor enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends, playing cards, and trips to the casino. She was a wonderful cook. Eleanor enjoyed the friendships she made with the Senior Achievers and the Ladies' Auxiliary of Legion 141. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband John, son Richard and sister Joyce Soroko. She will be sadly missed by her daughter-in-law Jean (Victor) Friesen, granddaughter Kristen Mazepa, grandson Craig Mazepa, sister Margaret Wynant, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family is very grateful to the staff of River Park Gardens who treated Eleanor with dignity and wonderful care. A private family service will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, we would appreciated donations in Eleanor's memory to River Park Gardens, 735 St. Anne's Rd., Winnipeg, MB, R2N 3Y4. Cropo Funeral Chapel 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Jean and family was very saddened to hear of Eleanor's passing . I have many memories of her , John and Richard coming to Kenora for summer holidays many years ago. Belinda Kolshuk - Posted by: Belinda Kolshuk (family) on: Oct 28, 2013

  • Where can I begin about my dear aunt. She gave me my first job in Anaheim, supported me when I tried out for cheerleader, and was a part of many other special moments through out my 60 years. Her comments were candid and spot on. I remember when I worked for the airline and I was being sent to training at our flight center, and I was to stay in a dorm. Upon hearing this, Aunty Eleanor was appalled and said "they are putting you up in barracks?" She felt her niece should be in a hotel. Towards her later years at River Park Gardens, we would have a birthday party for her. Last year, I decorated her room in the theme of Disney Princesses...It was great. Aunty Eleanor had the softest hands and I will miss holding them. I love you very much.. - Posted by: june wynant (niece) on: Oct 26, 2013
