Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ALVIN COX It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Alvin Cox, loving husband of Kathleen (Lucking), father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father-in-law and friend, on Monday, October 28, 2013. Al was born in Miami, MB on September 26, 1940 and his early years were spent on the family farm. Al then joined the R.C.A.F. in 1960 and became a Loadmaster starting his career in Edmonton, AB. He travelled around the world multiple times and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1995 after 35 distinguished years. Al met Kathy in the Snow Valley Dance Hall in 1963 and they married in July 1966. Throughout his life, Al always put great emphasis on his family and after the birth of his daughters, Pamela and Patricia in 1968 he continued to be an integral part of their lives. After being stationed in Trenton, ON, Al spent many years travelling with his family and when he was posted to Lahr, Germany in 1974 he became the family travel guide often playing host to many over the next four years. Returning to Winnipeg in 1981, he worked in Air Command and 9 Air Movement Unit, settling into his life with a variety of activities: curling, golf, baseball, darts and serving as the President of the C.F.B. Curling Club as well as being involved with C.F.B. Seniors Curling. After retiring, Al and Kathy enjoyed numerous trips often taking cruises and spending lots of time in their RV. Grandsons Justin and James provided Al with many hours and years of love and enjoyment. Al is survived by his wife Kathleen, of 47 years; children Pamela (Gregg) Garychuk, Patricia (Wes) Veness; grandsons Justin and James Garychuk; brother Clayton (Doreen) Cox, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Al was predeceased by his father, Sydney Cox in 1984 and Ella (Law) in 1988. We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many staff and caregivers at the Asper Cardiac Institute from the fourth and fifth floor, as well numerous staff from the St. Boniface Hospital. A celebration of Al's life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club, 940 Vimy Road, Winnipeg with the interment at a later date. Kathy, my sincere condolences to you and your family. Al's contributions as a Traffic Tech and Loadmaster were significant. Equally important though was the time and care he took to provide mentorship to the many junior officers who traipsed thru Air Command over the years. Kathy and Family, It is with heartfelt sadness Annette and I hear of Al's passing. As you know I had the great pleasure of working for Al as a young remuster from the Army. At all times Al was a true professional, extremely gifted leader, mentor, friend, and above all a "True Mover" showing great pride to the Traffic Technician community and trade. Al's demeanor instantly gained respect from all who knew him, always fair and honest, traits that I will sorely miss. Kathy, my sincere condolences are with you and your family at this time and I know no words can truly express the grief you are feeling, please know that Al was respected and your grief you are feeling is being shared by all who knew Al. - Posted by: David Stubbert (Friend/Co worker) on: Oct 31, 2013
