JOHN FILEP 1923 - 2013 On Wednesday, October 30, John passed away peacefully in his sleep the day after his 90th birthday. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn on April 22, 2009, and has missed her terribly since then. Dad leaves behind his son Bob (Bianka), his daughter Lesa and her two boys Seth and Zane, and many family and friends across Canada. He also had a special place in his heart for cousin Sharon and his niece Starr who left us way too soon. John was an adventure seeker and had numerous jobs and interests. His family farmed tobacco, he served in the Armed Forces, worked at a brewery, became a Free Mason, was a heavy duty diesel mechanic and eventually while travelling west from Windsor, Ontario, met Mom on a blind date and that was that. He settled down in Manitoba and began a career with Manitoba Hydro. Dad and Mom adopted Bob and then Lesa in the early 1960s. As a family, we moved from one Hydro location to another. Living in Grand Rapids, near Dorsey Converter Station, Great Falls, Seven Sisters, and McArthur Falls. Dad was a jack of all trades and could take anything apart and put it back together again. He was a strong, hardworking man who always taught us right from wrong. A series of strokes in the Fall of 2012 were quite debilitating but all through it, Dad maintained his dignity and sense of humour. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, especially Linda, Brenda, Jim and Myrna for their exceptional care and compassion and Susan his walking companion who was there when he passed, bless you. Also thank you to the staff at Seine River Retirement Residence where he resided prior. Thank you Chantal for putting up with Dad's mischievous side! As per Dad's wishes, there will be no service. Rest in peace Dad, say hi to Mom for us. Your strength, your smile and your words of wisdom will be missed. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I always enjoyed visiting great uncle John & aunt Evelyn when we were passing through Winnipeg with family. One of my fondest memories is when John & Evelyn visited my family in Lethbridge, Alberta. We went for walks and he gave me a reflexology foot massage. He was always such a jokester and full of interesting stories and aunt Evelyn was always so sweet. RIP John & Evelyn. - Posted by: Arianna Sebo (Grandneice) on: Nov 08, 2013
