CLARICE MAY CUTHBERT (nee NASH) 1920 - 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend Clarice on October 31, 2013, after a brief stay at St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by her mother Florence, her father William, her sisters Audrey and Sylvia, her brothers Bill and Denzel, and her son-in law Jim. Her beloved husband Peter predeceased her in 2002, after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters Patricia (Randy) of Winnipeg, and Kathleen of Shawnigan Lake, BC, and her sons Michael (Cheryl) of Dauphin and Paul (Rosanna) of Gimli, as well as her dear sister-in-law Rose Lindsay. "Nana" will be missed so much by her grandchildren Bryn, Malcolm, Kristin, Laura, Caehlin, Jonathon, Brittany and Alexandria. Clarice was delighted to have met her new great-granddaughter Rory. Clarice was born in Garden City, South Wales, and grew up in Blackwood Wales in the Rhondda Valley. She moved to London at age 16 and lived there until she joined the war effort in 1939. She served in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) in the Anti-Aircraft Command Post, where she met her life mate Peter. They married in 1945 after the war, and in 1952 they immigrated to Winnipeg with their two young daughters to begin a new life in Canada. Later, two sons were added to the family. Clarice and Peter spent many happy years in Winnipeg, raising their children in Silver Heights. They grew a large circle of friends through the R.A.F., Tec-Voc High School, Reh-Fit, and the John Forsythe Housing Co-op. They also spent a number of years on Vancouver Island after Peter's retirement, and then moved back to Winnipeg in 1997. Family was everything to Clarice. She was proud to provide a loving and warm home for her husband and children. Her grandchildren enjoyed a special relationship with their Nana, especially when spending time at the family cottage at Dauphin Lake where there was always lots of visiting, knitting, baking, and gardening. Clare made friends easily. She had a beautiful smile that quickly put people at ease. She loved to socialize and enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Waverley. Her special friends Margaret and Nell will miss her. The family would like to acknowledge with gratitude the compassion and kindness of Dr. Kevin Coates who looked after Mum for so many years. Visits from Mum's home care nurses lit up her days at the Waverley. Also a very special thanks to nurses Julianne, Lynn, Colleen, and Neil who made her last hours so comfortable. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 4, St. Edwards Church, 836 Arlington St. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. And farewell, my only love And fare thee well a while And I will come again, my love Though it were ten thousand miles For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. I recently picked up a package of "Tablet" at The British Pantry here in Seattle and have been thinking of your mom off and on ever since. It is 2018 now. I hadn't heard from you, but on a hunch, I looked up your mom's name and was guided to her obituary. My sympathies for your loss. I have many special and happy memories of your mom during my childhood. Some that are making me smile as I write this. Kathy and I got into our share of shenanigans over the years and both our moms seemed to take most of it in stride. But, I can see the look on your mom's face now... :) - Posted by: Deane Ramsay-Goldsmith (Friend) on: Jul 23, 2018
