JOHN EMERSON TROUT It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle, and friend John Emerson Trout on October 29, 2013, at Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 69 years. Emerson is survived by brothers Kenneth (Diana) and Allan (Cheryl); nieces Alisha, Kendall, Sara, and nephew Spencer. He was predeceased by his mother Anne and father Kenneth. Emerson was born in 1943 in Port Arthur, Ontario. Later his family moved to Winnipeg where he attended St. James Collegiate and went on to the University of Manitoba, earning a Bachelor of Science and later a Masters of Science. Emerson worked for the Government of Manitoba as a livestock specialist for 30 plus years and retired in 2003. In his spare time Emerson was an avid hunter and fisherman, along with his brothers Al and Kenny. He loved to spend many a weekend at his cottage (with his Wanipigow family), throwing darts at the Legion, or riding his bike through Assiniboine Park. Emerson was able to recall most any acquaintance or correspondence and was a remarkably inquisitive man. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. Memorial service 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Condolences & Memories (16 entries)

  • Our condolences to the Trout family. Emerson was not just a funny fellow but thoughtful and caring. One evening when I had been working on the roof all day he came by at dusk just to check I had not fallen off! We will miss him and his cheerful smile. - Posted by: Helga and Peter Elvers (Friend and neighbour at Lake Wanipigow) on: Nov 07, 2013

  • I will miss you driving your ATV toward the beach and often stopping to chat. - Posted by: Harold Surminski (Friend at Wanipigow Lake) on: Nov 05, 2013

  • I have known Emerson for many years and had the pleasure of having him take a couple of courses that I taught at both the Undergraduate and Graduate Program. Emerson was one of the most engaging students I have had in over 35 years of teaching. Any assignment that he completed was well above the required - he was very thorough in all his work. Throughout his career with the Livestock branch we on occasion interacted and it was always a pleasure listening to his interpretation of how things were going. I was shocked to read of his passing. May the memory of his stories and his pleasant interactive nature be a comfort to the rest of the Trout Family. He will be missed!!! - Posted by: Bill Guenter (One of Emerson's Professors) on: Nov 05, 2013

  • To the Trout Family...We can't know why the lily has so brief a time to bloom in the warmth of sunlight's kiss upon its face. Before it folds its fragrance in and bids the world good-night to rest its beauty in a gentler place. But we can know that nothing loved is ever lost, and no one who has ever touched a heart can really pass away, because some beauty lingers on in each memory of which they've been a part. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this sad time. May the love of family and friends carry you through the coming days. Love is forever... • I met Emerson at Santorini restaurant and had many, many laughs with him. A very smart guy who would talk on a number of topics. I found him to be a great breakfast companion, listening to him talk about fishing with his brothers or clearing beaver dams is now a cherished memory for me. He will be missed. - Posted by: Scott Cook (Friend) on: Nov 02, 2013

  • I have known Em for over 45 years and always enjoyed his company. I was shocked to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Alf Kingston (Friend) on: Nov 02, 2013

  • Many times, I witnessed Emerson engaging a stranger in friendly conversation. Like many, I was drawn to his knowledge, wit, insight, intelligence and loyalty. Without intending to, Emerson challenged me to raise the level of our conversation to try to match his intellect. He was a thoughtful and kind friend of my family, especially to my father and mother. We are all thankful that we knew him. - Posted by: Murray Conklin (Friend) on: Nov 02, 2013

  • Emerson was a very good friend growing up in Winnipeg during high school and university. I always admired his superior intelligence, his kindness, his humour and common sense, his ability to shrug off difficulties in life, and I know that he lived a life that he loved, hunting and fishing. I enjoyed those many times with him including at "the Assiniboine" and fishing at the "50 cent" hole on the Winnipeg River, etc. He was a good friend at my wedding in Vancouver and a good friend at those frosty Fall early mornings at delta marsh,.. in the old days. There really was no better person than Emerson Trout. I will miss him, but I will always have wonderful memories of the Emer.
