YOSHI ABE (nee HOMMA) 1918 - 2013 Yoshi Abe went peacefully into the night, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband, Yoshimaru and her daughter, Yuri. Surviving her are son Kazu (Leslie), daughters Yumi Falk, Miki Stewart (Ken), and Amy Murray (Ken). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her family of Oike nieces and nephews. She lived a full 95 years with no regrets and led an independent life until her passing. Mom was born in West Vancouver where she eventually met Dad. They were married for over 63 years. They began their family during their internment in interior British Columbia during the Second World War and were then relocated to Manitoba where they lived and raised their five children. Mom was an independent, strong, resourceful individual with a sharp wit and keen sense of humour. She embraced the cultures of Japan and Canada to create a harmonious life for her family. She welcomed her children's friends into her home and made them feel that they belonged. The Oike family always held a special place in Mom's heart. She watched over them and treated them as her own. We would like to thank Doctors Verelli and Walters, the Peritoneal Dialysis nurses and Lydia Harris at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care over the years. We'd also like to thank her homecare workers and the MICU staff at Health Sciences Centre. A special thank you goes out to her granddaughter Melainie Stewart who did so much for her and continues to give of herself to her family. We gratefully decline flowers but a donation may be made to the Manitoba Branch of the Kidney Foundation, 1 - 452 Dovercourt Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4 or The Japanese Cultural Centre, 180 McPhillips St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 2J9 in honour of her memory. According to her wishes, a private service and interment will take place at a later date. It gives us great comfort knowing that she is now reunited with Dad, Yuri and her best friend and sister, Sue. Laughing together like old times.
