• 10 years ago today, at approximately 3:20 pm, I watched my mother take her last breath. I've thought and thought about what I would say today, being such a milestone. But that's as far as I get, every time. Ten years ago today I saw my mother take her last breath...then I'm stumped. Maybe because what happened in that moment. I was stumped. Life didn't end, the world didn't stop, but I wanted it to. I remember feeling resentful when I saw transit buses operating, when I saw my mail being delivered, saw people still fighting rush hour traffic. Wtf? Didn't they KNOW my mother had died? Every family picture taken since then, though our family has doubled in size feels like there's something missing. Little did we know, however, that Mom had tucked away a piece of her heart for safekeeping. I don't know if she knew this would happen but I would like to think she did--that piece of her heart found her way back to us just over a year ago. 'Carol Ann' is home, Mom. She goes by Lynne now. I'd like to believe it was your undying love that lead her back. You're way more powerful than I ever imagined and I'm so grateful and proud to be able to call myself your daughter.
