PETER COGILL It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Peter Cogill, aged 77, of heart failure, while on a family holiday in Nottingham, England. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Karin, his brother Stephen, sons Dieter and John, daughter Christa, and grandson Aaron. Peter was predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Mary, brother John, and sister Anne. Peter enjoyed a 62 year career in aviation, begun at age 15 as a Boy Entrant in the Royal Air Force. After emigrating from England to Canada, Peter was employed as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer by TransAir, Pacific Western, Canadian Airlines, Air Canada, and Cargojet, and worked until his passing for Red River College's Stevenson Aviation. In keeping with Peter's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Anglican Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue, Winnipeg.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • First off, I would like to thank everyone for their sympathy and such kind words.... I miss and love him so dearly, but his spirit lives on. He was always such a kind, caring man and he would bring a smile to everyone's face no matter the mood. I will never forget how much fun I used to have with him when I would visit him and my grandmother Karin as a child.. I wish that I would have had a great grandson for him to meet before his passing, but when the time comes my son/daughter will know just how great he was. My father and mother miss him unconditionally and not a day goes by that we don't think of him and all of the memories he gave us.... I love you grandpa your loving grandson, Aaron Cogill - Posted by: Aaron cogill (Grandson ) on: May 21, 2017

  • I will miss him dearly. Peter was hilarious, we had a lot of fun when he visited us in Arizona and in Nevada. I enjoyed the stories he told of his life. - Posted by: cheri cogill (daghter-in-law) on: Oct 25, 2015

  • Your daily presence will be missed by many, but not more than those close, that loved you. Today's the memorial, I plan to attend, out of respect of the man that's been. To pass along my deepest sympathies to those that remain. We all will carry, your memory with-in. Your spirit risen, you're in a good place; that is a measure of comfort that we'll take away. Rest In Peace ...Peter. - Posted by: Ed Krosta (neighbor) on: Nov 13, 2013

  • I've known and worked with Peter since 1970 at Bristol Aerospace and through Transair, PWA and Canadian Airlines. Peter was a very conscientious and a stellar worker. Enjoyed meeting him every Friday nights at the KEG in Winnipeg with the boys and at Salisbury House and also the good fun we had at the Airport hotel Constellation room. I'll miss you my good friend. Myrna and I would like to extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to Karin and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Wayne Drews (friend, former co-worker) on: Nov 07, 2013

  • My deepest sympathy to Peter's family. I have known Peter for many years, throughout all the airline takeovers and mergers. Peter was a wonderful and kind man who always had a good story to tell about his RAF days. He had the English sense of humour that we both shared. He will be sadly missed, but happily remembered for his good life. - Posted by: Paul Wood (friend and co-worker) on: Nov 07, 2013

  • Please accept my condolences for sudden demise of Peter. It was a pleasure to work with Peter for years from Transair days till Canadian Airlines. Cannot forget his hate for smoking after he himself quit one day and was chasing cleaning lady with fire extinguisher when she was adamant to smoke. Regards. May your soul RIP. • I will miss you dear friend. We did not phone often, but they were enjoyed when they happened. Many happy times & memories of work in Winnipeg, and sailing out on the lake. Wish I could be there to say goodbye. Richard R. - Posted by: Richard Rowlatt (Old friend) on: Nov 06, 2013

  • I worked with Peter since the TransAir days. And just like him I ended up retiring with Air Canada. The most amazing thing that I remember with Peter was when he had a stroke and after six months he was back driving his car. He took pride in his work and the last time I saw him was at the TransAir luncheon and he mentioned that he was still working that day so he needs to get back to work after luncheon. Eva and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to all the Cogill family. - Posted by: Edward Neil Murphy (Colleague) on: Nov 06, 2013
