STELLA WASYLIK 1923 - 2013 The family of Stella Wasylik is sad to announce Stella passed away (peacefully, with dignity, with her family at her side and surrounded by flowers from her 90th birthday) at 6:33 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013. The daughter of Nellie and John Chorney, she was born in Selkirk (Walkleyburg), Manitoba on October 30, 1923. She married Peter Wasylik on June 5, 1947. As a couple they lived in Arborg, MB for 17 years and then in 1966 the entire family moved to Swan River, MB to own and operate the Twilight Motel until 1971. Stella acquired her Registered Nurse diploma from the Misericordia Hospital (Winnipeg) in 1945. Stella worked full time as an RN in Winnipeg, Arborg and Swan River until her retirement in April of 1987. Our mom enjoyed her home, garden, fishing, visiting and travelling, but most of all she treasured her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends, as well as working with the ladies of the All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church where she served as president for two years. Mom was predeceased by our father and her husband Peter of 52 1/2 years on February 29, 2000 and by her siblings: James and wife Frances, Mike and wife Sophie, Carrie and husband Joe Sternat, Anton, Joe, Mary and husband Frank Mikolash and Johnny. Stella is survived by her son Barry and his wife Pauline; daughter Brenda; chosen daughter Bonnie and her husband Ron; grandchildren Stephanie and her husband Cy Spenst, Craig Slepicka and his girlfriend Kalena; great-grandchildren Preston and Lexi Spenst and sisters-in-law Adeline (Anton), Stella (Joe), Stella (Johnny) Chorney and Eleanor Wasylik. She will also be remembered fondly and with memories of knitted socks by her nieces and nephews on both the Wasylik and Chorney sides of the family, as well as by many longtime friends and colleagues. Her faithful feline Squirt also mourns and misses her. Stella was an amazing woman - a lady, RN, wife, mother, aunty, grandmother and friend. She also had a sense of humor - she left a joke for us to include in her obituary... "A family was gathered around their mother's hospital bed and she was talking about her impending entry into heaven, where she would join her frugal husband. "Probably the 1st words your father says to me will be, "So - how much did this trip cost?" We would like you to remember our mother with a smile whenever you think of her. Cremation has taken place. Mass will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Peter Pidskalny, CSsR officiating from the All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church in Swan River. Mom asked that all friends and family consider themselves Honorary Pallbearers. We understand that some people may not be able to attend the service, but if you have a pair of her socks please wear them that day to remember her. It was Stella's wish that in lieu of flowers you consider a donation to the Swan Valley Animal Protection League (Box 2735, Swan River, MB ROL 1Z0) or your local Humane Society. Arrangements were entrusted to Swan Valley Funeral Services Ltd., 363 Kelsey Trail, Swan River, MB, R0L 1Z0 (204-734-5775) www.swanvalleyfuneralservices.com
