EVA (JOYCE) SIMCOE (ZINKO, HOSKINS) February 28, 1925 - November 5, 2013 Joyce completed her journey on November 5, 2013 and transitioned into her life in Heaven. She lived with Congestive Heart Failure for over 40 years, most recently complicated by Vascular Dementia. Joyce maintained her resilience and zest for life, and miraculously gained inner peace as her physical strength diminished. We thank God for His blessing of the last three years of her life, which she described as "content". Mom was raised in Fort Rouge and lived most of her life in East Kildonan. She valued education and worked as a paralegal, teacher, adult educator, child life therapist, medical research assistant and model. One of the highlights of her life was unearthing an old trading doll while participating in an archaeological dig at The Forks. A beautiful and articulate woman, Joyce caught the eye of many admirers, including Johnny Zinko. They enjoyed 53 years of dancing, skiing, canoeing and travelling along with their cherished daughter Pat and a succession of family dogs. Joyce lost her safe harbour with John's death and moved to a series of seniors residences before settling into the Shaftsbury and later the Simkin Centre. Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband Johnny, infant son Ian and sister-in-law Mary Zinko Irvine. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Pat Simcoe-Rosenbaum (Harv), brother-in-law Bert, nieces and nephews, June (Denis), Linda (Lloyd), Dewey (Cindy), Rick (Martina) and cousins Don, Carol and Glen. Thank you to Dr. A. Pacin, Dr. J. Mayba, staff at the Victoria Hospital and the Simkin Centre for their compassionate care. Esther Daga and her staff helped Joyce live independently over the last few years along with Manitoba Home Care Program. Mom's life was enriched by her companion and dear friend, Nila Pascua. We appreciate the efforts of Glen, Jerry and Marsha for their support during this difficult time. A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery. Interment will take place at an undetermined date at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity you feel would make the most difference in the life of a child. We love you Mom, "You are our Sunshine".
