ANTHONY LEVANDOSKI It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of Anthony Levandoski at age 85 on Friday, November 8, 2013 of lung cancer that spread to the heart. In keeping with Anthony's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Anthony was predeceased by his parents John and Justyna, and siblings: Kazmar, Stanley, Stephie Cory, Walter Fenton, Julia, Jim, Helen Timler, and Carol Smith. He leaves to mourn his passing, sisters Julie Beaton (in Ontario) and Virginia Wickler, brother-in-law Ron Wickler Sr., sister-in-law Margaret Levandoski, and many, many nieces and nephews. Anthony grew up in Winnipeg and found employment at Winnipeg City Hydro where he worked as an overhead crane operator and stores clerk for 37 years. He recalled innumerable stories from his career at the steam plant at the foot of Alexander Street near the river, seeing the many changes as our city grew and the impact of technological change. He was a devoted son, caring for and living with his mother until her passing at age 86. Anthony lived a thrifty and simple life; he enjoyed good food and drink, and good company. Although Anthony never married or had children of his own, he was very generous in his support of many nieces and nephews and seldom turned down a loan request that would help ease or improve the lives of the younger members of his extended family. Anthony highly valued his family ties and made a point of keeping in touch with members all across the country. He was a very sentimental fellow, keeping mementos for years and years. After retirement, Anthony developed a routine of volunteering at the food bank in the mornings and going for long walks or bus rides in the afternoons, having coffee with friends and discussing the daily news of the city and world. Anthony loved jokes and no one was spared his favourite puns and groaners. It seemed he could remember thousands, and could recall a suitable joke for almost any occasion! He was always found at home in the evenings enjoying his television and looking for shows with information or music/dance from far away places and cultures. As a younger man Anthony loved to travel and had many memories of trips with friends to Japan, Belgium, several U.S. cities, and numerous visits to siblings who lived in Nova Scotia, BC, Ontario and Alberta. We will greatly miss this fine man, a good son, loving and caring brother and supportive uncle. A heartfelt thank-you is extended to the kind and considerate staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Level 5, Units U6 and U4. Special thanks to Dr. Moncek and his colleagues who were compassionate and diligent in their care of Anthony, forthright with family members, and were able to understand Anthony's situation and provide him comfort.
