KAREN (KAY) ANNE STAPLETON (KENNEDY)
Date of Passing: Nov 11, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAREN (KAY) ANNE STAPLETON (nee KENNEDY) Suddenly on November 11, 2013 at her home, Kay passed away at the age of 45. Kay lived for her two sons, Owen 12 and Ben 8. Her passing has left a huge void in the lives of her boys; her husband Terry, of 16 years; mother Gail and father Terry; sister Joan (Jeff) and their children Alexander and Hilary. A small town girl at heart, Kay was born in Thompson and lived in The Pas and Flin Flon before heading to Winnipeg for University. Kay described her chosen profession as CEO and President of her family. She fiercely advocated for her two children whom she was devoted to. The energy and creativity she put into their happiness was peerless. Her daily life lessons on living the golden rule shaped them into the compassionate boys they are. She was known as Miss Kay to all the children at Strathmillan School where she volunteered. She knew most by name and exactly what word to say to brighten their day. Her attention to detail on every task she tackled on their behalf was awe inspiring. Her favourite Mother's Day gift was a truck load of manure for her beloved gardens. She treasured getting dirty with her boys. She loved to be busy and always had a few projects on the go; a trait she attributed to her father. Her mother inspired her to be a voracious reader and talented writer. During her time at CBC she was a social force, she was the organizer of Glow in the Dark Bowling nights and Corn Maze visits. She forged some long lasting friendships during her studies at Red River's Creative Communications program and while getting her B.A. in Language Arts at the University of Manitoba. She went on her first great adventure after her high school years in Flin Flon. She travelled to Australia as a Rotary Club exchange student. She made lifelong friendships which she recently celebrated at a reunion in Spain. If you were fortunate enough to call Kay friend you had a tireless ally in life. If you would like to pay it forward on Kay's behalf please consider three of her favourite things. She loved gardening and was a supporter and frequent visitor of Assiniboine Park Conservancy. She always held a special place in her heart for children and the Health Sciences Centre Children's Hospital. She owed a debt of gratitude to them and the Canadian Blood Services for saving her older son's life. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. Reception to follow. So, it was Northern Manitoba in the 70's and 80's when Karen (Kay) touched my life. Our moms were Girl Guide Brownie Leaders up in The Pas. Karen had a magnetic personality from a young age. Nice to see from all of the previous comments that she kept that with her for all of these years. She made me laugh. I often thought that her cheeks must hurt from all of her smiling, even in her sleep. I am so saddened to hear that she has become an angel so soon. She has left a legacy that is unmatched in the sons that she shared with husband Terry. I want all of her family including Gail, Terry, and Joan to know that I am thinking about all of them. Some of Karen lives on in all of us. Kirsten - Posted by: Kirsten Endicott (nee Ohryn) (Very old pal of Karen) on: Nov 28, 2013

Dear Terry, Owen, Ben and Kay's family: What a wonderful tribute to Kay. I can sense her spirit and determination. Anyone who understands that the greatest challenge and joy in life is to be CEO and president of the family is a girl after my own heart. What an amazing gift she has given to all of you. I hope that you will continue to feel her presence as the sun shines upon you, in the wind which blows softly on your cheek and wraps you in her thoughts, as the rain drowns your tears and as you walk on the earth and feel her strength and courage. The gift of a life is the ultimate gift and you have been blessed with this in Kay. My heart goes out to you during this time. Hugs. Kay is very dear to our family. My daughter Julia (Ben's good schoolmate friend) proudly keeps saying "I told Kay I had a crush on her". She would hug me back often and say, "I have a big crush on you too, Julia". Our whole neighborhood of Silver Heights and Strathmillan School is simply lost without our dear friend, Kay! - Posted by: Luther and Kim Chell (School friends) on: Nov 14, 2013
