Allen & Joy - I was so sad to hear of Auntie Gertie's passing. I have the fondest memories of her and Uncle Jack. Their house was always so welcoming - always full of interesting people, stimulating conversation, amazing food and most of all LOVE! Her zest for life was inspiring! My deepest condolences. - Posted by: Marilyn McClay (Niece) on: Nov 18, 2013

Hi Joy & Allen, Our condolences to you and your families on the loss of your mother. I remember Gertie as a wonderful, cheerful, always smiling person. Dell & I still fondly remember her thoughtfulness after our mother died a number of years ago. She brought a pan of matrimonial cake for us. We were delighted and I stated "Crumby cake!' Your mother was a bit taken aback until we explained that we loved it and crumby cake was our common name for it due to the crumbs of oatmeal which always fall. She then shared that was the second one she made as the first one had an accident and fell on the floor coming out of the oven. We enjoyed a wonderful laugh together. Cheers, Doug & Cheryl & Dell - Posted by: Doug Durnin (friend) on: Nov 18, 2013

Joy my thoughts are with all of you. I remember staying with Auntie Gertie and Uncle Jack during the day when I would spend time in Brandon with Grandma and Grandpa (Lyle and Edith) while they were both at work. We would have the best time making apple pies, working outside and visiting with Auntie Hazel and Uncle Alf. (Remember Auntie Hazel's Kool-Aid??)and of course Joy following you around, she was a wonderful person so much fun. Take Care - Posted by: Kim Ostafichuk (Howse) (Great Neice) on: Nov 18, 2013
