Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS EVELYN GAMBLE (nee CHORLEY) It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our mother, Doris Evelyn Gamble on November 6, 2013 at the Brandon General Hospital, Brandon, MB. Evelyn is survived by her loving family, Joanne Desjarlais (Phil), Patricia Groening (Ralph), Robert (Jackie) and Thomas (Loretta); 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and awaiting the arrival of an additional great-grandchild. Evelyn was predeceased by her daughter Linda, great-grandson Jackson, and our father; John Gamble. Mom appreciated her longtime family relationship with Neil Griffith and Dale Aichelle. She will be deeply missed by brothers Bob (Tina), Alan (Marlene) and sister Betty Dante (Dick), as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom's parents Stan and Mary Chorley and brother John Elliot Chorley, predeceased her. Doris Evelyn was born in Winnipeg, MB on July 4, 1933. Mom attended Kelvin Collegiate in Winnipeg when her education was curtailed by the 1950 Flood. Over the years, Mom worked at Timothy Eaton Company, Manitoba Telephone System, General Electric, Canada Post and O Mondell Importers. Many of Mom's summer vacations were spent at Grand Beach at the family cottage, Lindenwood. Grand Beach became a family holiday spot for five generations. One of Mom's favourite pastimes was listening to the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She also enjoyed other NHL games, figure skating and the "Young and the Restless" on TV. A game of Scrabble or a game with the grandchildren or great-grandchildren was always welcome. Our mother was an amazing, incredible, caring and thoughtful person. She loved all of her family dearly and cherished their visits, letters, cards, phone calls and later checking out Facebook. Mom was faithful in sending birthday cards, as well as, calling to sing "Happy Birthday", making the occasion very meaningful. Her grandson said "Grandma hasn't missed a birthday of mine in 34 years.". Mom was a dog lover and enjoyed seeing the family pooches. In Mom's last days, Hoogie, the little stuffed Christmas Dog was a gift of comfort. Mom was a trooper, she faced adversity with a positive attitude. She was extremely organized with a fantastic memory, and a thrifty lady always looking for the best bang for her buck. Mom had a smile that would light up a room. Mom was faced with life threatening illness on two previous occasions and managed to recover. She was a survivor. However, Mom did not have the strength to overcome pneumonia and heart issues this time. She had a strong desire to live but her body failed her. The good Lord had another need for her. Mom was grateful for the many acts of kindness shown by her friends while living in the Adamar apartments. She also bonded with the home care staff. Thank you for your care and friendship. Mom celebrated her 80th birthday on July 4, followed by a move to Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon where she enjoyed new friendships. One of Mom's last requests was to go "home" to Valleyview as she said, "they know how to take care of me.". Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff for the tender, loving care they provided Mom. Special thanks to our family nurses Jackie Gamble and Melanie Barrows. Mom's niece Kim Hatch was also a valuable support during Mom's last days. Thanks also to Dr. Deong and Dr. Dunsmore for their efforts. Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of Mom's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Lung Association or Valleyview Care Centre - Van Fund, 3015 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB R7B 2K2. "We will continue to learn from the memories Mom helped create" We love you dearly and will miss you so very much Rest in Peace Dear Mom Cremation - Voyage Funeral Home & Crematorium. Burial - Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery.
