LOUIS JOSEPH CARON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis Caron on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 90 years of age. Louis is survived by his loving wife Isabel (nee Thompson); children Jeff (Tracey), Jackie (Wes), Colleen (Keith), Nicki (Rob), Dan (Heidi); grandchildren Tim (Amanda), Jessica, Justin, Andrew, Bobby, Stephanie, Tyler, Christopher, Alex, Taylor and Luke; great-grandchild Austin; brothers Aime and Gilles (Edith); sister Berthe; sister-in-law Marcelle; the Thompson and Kleysen families as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Xavier; mother Anna, and siblings Marcel, Denis, Pauline, Raymond and Rita. Dad was born and raised in Headingley where he worked side by side with his father Xavier, brother Gilles and later his son Dan, on the family farm that was homesteaded by the Caron family in 1880. Farming was not only an occupation for Dad, it was a way of life. In 1969, he married Isabel Kleysen. Dad not only fell in love with Isabel but also with Jeff, Jackie and Colleen who came as a "package deal". He always loved a deal and this was the deal of a lifetime. The love affair was mutual and Dad proudly took on the role as father. Nicki and Dan (the second "litter") followed in the next few years. He was an incredible father to his five children. Nothing brought more joy to Dad than his 11 grandchildren including the imminent birth of his 12th in December. Jellybeans and golf cart rides were abundant when the grandchildren visited Grandpa at the farm. A surprise dose of hot mustard or making Smarties appear from behind their ears kept the kids on their toes. The kids will cherish memories of Grandpa singing his special songs to them and surprise visits from Santa Claus at Christmas. Always smiling with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, Dad had a legendary sense of humour. Even the grandkids were not safe from his practical jokes. Dad had a zest for life. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting trips to South Dakota and pickerel fishing with the boys. He was passionate about snowmobiling. Dad owned and operated Caron's Cat Shop, one of the first Arctic Cat dealerships in Western Canada and also established the first Arctic Cat racing team in Canada. Dad had a passion for anything with a motor, but it had to be a Ford. He was known for his black F-150's and countless restoration projects, be it old Lincolns or his prized '57 Thunderbird. His home in Palm Springs gave him the opportunity to wander down back lanes, always on the hunt for his next project. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street. The family wishes to thank their extended family at the Charleswood Care Centre for the wonderful care provided to Dad over the past six years. Special thanks to Deb for always being there for Dad and for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Foundation ("Louis Caron Bursary" for St. Charles Academy) or a charity of choice. I knew of Louie Caron, from watching races when I was young, from the stories my friend Jamie told, and I recognized him when I would visit my father at the Charleswood. If I saw Louie in the halls, I would say hello, and if I had my black lab with me, I'd look for him, to say hello and show him my dog. Louie was an avid hunter and had hunted with dogs. My dad passed on a year ago, in November, and I've not been back to the Charleswood. Good-bye Mr. Caron. - Posted by: Ken Dyck () on: Dec 21, 2013

After ISABEL picked me up at the airport on September 28 our first stop was to go see Louis! He knew who I was when I talked to him in French. His face lit up! I saw him again on the 29th. That day he had 2 angels with him, "Isabel and Jackie" so devoted to Louis. Thank you all his children to have been so good to your "dad". He has always been so special in my life either in Charleswood or my many visits in Thousand Palms, CA. He was as witty as his mother, Anna, and teased everyone. Rest in peace dear cousin. Isabel, you were such a caring and loving wife to Louis, All my love, Jeannine and all the Bourgeois cousins in California. - Posted by: Jeannine St Amant Gosselin (cousin) on: Nov 21, 2013

Louis always welcomed Dan's friends with a big smile and a joke and was a big part of our lives growing up. Louis and Isabel always made their house feel like a second home and it is a gesture that I will never forget and will be sure to pass forward. I will miss Louis squirting lemon juice in my mouth when I accidentally fell asleep on the couch. I'm not quite sure what the lesson was that he was trying to teach but he sure enjoyed it. I'am privileged to have known Lou. - Posted by: Cam Kopansky (Friend of the Family) on: Nov 20, 2013

Missing everyone and wishing we were in Winnipeg. No matter the length of time between visits, as soon as we arrived the warm hello and infectious smile made us feel like we had not been away for long. Uncle Louis was a force to be reckoned with when a tale was a brewing. Our love and prayers to you all. Jennifer, Jim, Anna and Alexandra - Posted by: Jennifer Nugent (neice) on: Nov 20, 2013

This man was one of the most impressive people that I have known. My friend Dennis Neelin (deceased) and myself spent many hours of visiting and storytelling with Louis and they were the best. Add his pal Marcel in there and what an event that could be. I will miss my friend. Godspeed Louie...Godspeed - Posted by: Warren Schettler (friend) on: Nov 20, 2013

Louis was my Dad's roommate at the Charleswood Care Centre for the past six years. His quiet presence and sense of humour made for an excellent companion for my Dad. Carons and LaFlèches have been living together alongside the Assiniboine River in Charleswood since 1883. As a result - I am sad to see Louis go but happy that he will be reunited with my dad Martial (Bouncer) as Louis was one of his favourite people. Whether it was having a quick chat with Louis as he was inspecting the fields in his Ford half-ton, re-building an engine with Uncle Aimé in “Louis’ shop”, or reminiscing about old uncles and aunts, they really enjoyed each other’s company. I will always remember Louis’ twinkle in his eye and his trademark smile. On behalf of the LaFlèche family, my deepest sympathies to Isabel and the family. Wanting to be in Winnipeg; honouring the passing of a man who had an unmatched joy for living and sense of humour; who was guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye and put a smile on your face through laughter, a gentle tease and a tale or two; and who always made room for one more ... despite how full the house might be (and it was always full of friends and family) he and Auntie Isabel would always find one more chair for the table or one more pillow to lay your head on at bedtime. Some of my happiest childhood memories took place on trips home to Winnipeg, and on that farm. Rest in Peace Uncle Louis, and know that following your lead, our Sophie happily completes the dishwasher "pre-rinse cycle" each and every night. Auntie Isabel please know that with all my heart I am there, love to the entire clan. Rob, Laura, Meaghan, and Graeme. - Posted by: Laura Wilkie (Family) on: Nov 20, 2013

Isabel, Jackie and Wes and the Caron family. On behalf of Brandi and I, our mother Cecile Carson and the Carson family, please accept our deepest sympathy. Louis was a great man. Louis was a great friend to our father Gene during his stay at the Charleswood Care Home. Louis and Gene filled the Care Home with music, Gene on guitar and vocals, Louis on vocals. Their two part harmonizing was something to behold during their impromtu concerts that could break out at any time and anywhere in the complex after they shared their loot winning Bingo. The Caron/Carson band is back together. - Posted by: Gary Carson (Friend) on: Nov 20, 2013
