LILLIAN JANE HAYES (nee CURRIE) July 4, 1928 - November 14, 2013 Peacefully and surrounded by her family, at age 85, Jane was called Home into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on November 14, 2013 at Riverview Health Centre. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Janice (John Scherpenzeel), Glenn (Laurie), Geoffrey (Barbara), Mary Jane, Donna (Rick Minaker), Arlene (Steve Ritchie), Philip (Barbara), Paul and Leslie (Carey Candy); her grandchildren Beth (Dean), Jamie (Rochelle), Christopher, Kevin (Samantha), Lisa (Jay), Catherine, Laura, Matthew, Tiffany, Jeremy and Justin and great-granddaughter August; sister-in-law Irene Currie; and extended family and friends. Jane was predeceased by Frederick Ralph, her loving husband for 60 years; her firstborn infant son Mark; parents William and Marie Currie; twin brothers Jackie and baby Currie; sister Doris Ronyck; brother Allan Currie; brother-in-law William Ronyck; niece Sandy Hazeldine Paulsen; and nephew Gary Currie. Jane was born and raised in St. Boniface and graduated from Transcona Collegiate Institute in 1945. She was employed at Jack's Fashion Shop in Transcona, a business operated by the family of her lifelong friend Bryna Levin. Jane came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour in her teens and began attending Ebenezer Gospel Hall (later Arlington Street Gospel Chapel). It was there that she met Ralph, the love of her life, and they were married on May 29, 1948. They knew sorrow early in their life together when they lost their first child, Mark, at birth, but God honoured their trust in Him by giving them the strength to carry on and blessed them with nine more children. Jane was the quintessential daughter; wife; mother; grandmother and great-grandmother; living a life of complete self-sacrifice to the needs of her family. She did this lovingly and graciously, and the Lord provided her with the robust physical stamina, wisdom, patience and spiritual and emotional resources required. She was a steadfast caregiver, teacher and role-model - always available to dispense comfort, support and unqualified love. Jane had a deep and abiding faith and enjoyed fellowship later in life at Church of The Way and Oxford Bible Church. She was a student of scripture and was a spiritual mentor to her family and friends. Her entire life bore witness to her commitment to Christ and the resulting peace was eminently on display in her final months. It would be impossible to raise such a large family without a sense of humour and Jane was blessed with a quick wit and infectious laugh. She was a wonderful cook; consummate homemaker and hostess; and enjoyed music and travel. However, nothing brought her more happiness than to be surrounded by her family. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff of Riverview Health Centre 3 East; Palliative Care Coordinator Brenda Bilodeau and the wonderful aides and nurses who cared for mother in her home; Go Orderly for their exceptional service; Dr. Garry Schroeder and the staff of CancerCare Manitoba; and Dr. Michael Coodin. A memorial service and reception celebrating Jane's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 21 at Manitoba Korean Presbyterian Church (formerly Oxford Bible Church) 621 Oxford Street at Fleet Avenue. If desired, contributions may be made in Jane's memory to Riverview Health Centre Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, OHEYS Autism Programs, Missionary Service Committee or a charity of your choice. We'll miss you dearly and love you forever. "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21 Arrangements by Chapel Lawn 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Mom - it's Christmas time, and I recall many happy occasions as a family celebrating with you and Dad. Special occasions will never be the same without you. How fortunate we all were to have you as part of our lives for as long as we did. We will find it hard to carry on without you, but you will remain in our thoughts and in our hearts as long as we live. Until we meet again, love always -Arlene - Posted by: Arlene Ritchie (daughter) on: Nov 27, 2013

  • What a wonderful mother, what an incredible legacy. I remember her kind smile, her love for her children. I know that the love shown by Aunt Jane to her family throughout the years was returned to her, especially over the last few months as a vigil was maintained to be with her. - Posted by: Alan Hayes (Relative) on: Nov 21, 2013

  • Sending my deepest condolences to all of you. May you find strength in Christ and in each other as you mourn. Memories will comfort, as her legacy lives on. Rip. - Posted by: Annemarie () on: Nov 19, 2013

  • To Janice and all your siblings and families I am so sad to read of your Mum's passing but rejoicing with you that she is in the presence of her Saviour, whom she loved and served so faithfully. Our families go back a very long way. I was able to have a little visit with Jane at my Mum's 100th birthday party. It was so amazing to see her after so many years. Sending you all my best love and prayers Lorna Perry (Cross) - Posted by: Lorna Perry (Cross) (Friend) on: Nov 19, 2013
