Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMEL SHAW On November 13, 2013 Melvin Shaw lost a nine month battle with A.M.L. Born in Edmonton on April 15, 1933 and raised in Winnipeg, Mel was the bravest of souls as he fought this deadly leukemia. Mel was predeceased by his wife and best friend Naomi in 1986, his mother Esther, father Abe and sister Luella. His legacy are his daughters Liz (Gary) Ross and Susan (David) Numerow, and grandchildren Nia, Nicole, Jeni, Logan and Ben. He leaves behind his niece Jan, her husband Art Holloway and their son Kyle; and brother-in-law John Hays. And so very special to Mel, he leaves his great friend and constant companion of the past 14 years - Carla Shumeley. The beginning and the end of Mel's life were difficult. But the years in between were so precious to him: his marriage and life with Naomi, Liz and Susan and later with his grandchildren - who adored him, and his years with Carla. Mel spent 50 years as the Sales Manager at Automotive Accessories. A creature of habit, you could set your clock by the time he left the house every morning for work and the time he arrived home every evening. He retired in 2002 with fond memories and with the friendship and gratitude of the many people with whom he worked. At the end, Mel fought the disease that took over his body with the courage only the bravest of men can muster. His life was blessed with an extra nine relatively healthy months that he would not have had without an experimental chemotherapy that he endured at St. Boniface Hospital. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff on 6E at the St. Boniface Hospital who made his last seven weeks as comfortable and dignified as possible. Funeral services were held on November 14 with interment next to his beloved Naomi at Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Mel was accompanied to his final resting place by his grandchildren and sons-in-law. Thanks to Rabbi Lander and all the staff at Etz Chayim for their kindness.
