JOAN EMBURY With her family by her side, Joan passed away on November 22, 2013 at the Riverview Health Centre. Joan leaves to mourn her husband Robert "Bob", her daughter Darrelle, and her son Braden (Barb), the "lights of her life" her grandchildren, Charleigh and Wyatt, and her sisters, Lillian (Bill) and Carol, as well as a number of nieces and nephews, who will all miss her. Joan was predeceased by her father and mother, Kalman and Jolan, and her sister Eleanor. For Joan family meant everything, from her unconditional love and caring, to providing advice and assistance whenever she could. They came first before personal considerations. Throughout her life Joan was very much a "people" person. With her beaming smile and her caring attitude, whether at work or in everyday life, she made many long and lasting friendships. Joan had many enjoyments in life, from her various hobbies to working on her flower gardens. She especially enjoyed travelling, which she embraced with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. Her family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Victoria General Hospital (Buhler Cancer Centre) and to the doctors and staff of the Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that a donation be made in her memory to the Buhler Cancer Centre at the Victoria General Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. My sympathy to Bob and family. Joan became a friend through the Vic Oncology Dept where I volunteer. We both enjoy crafts, she taught me many new crafts and I taught her Swedish weaving. I only had the pleasure of knowing Joan a short while but she was so personable and easy going I felt we got to know each other well in a short period of time. I used to tell her I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. Her perseverance and spirit where always inspirational to me. She was a wonderful person. We have surely lost one of the good ones.
