JOHN DEGROOT Peacefully on November 26, 2013, John DeGroot passed away. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Barbara, after 55 years of marriage and siblings Rona, Henry, and Joan. He will also be sadly missed by his three boys and their families; Bill (Joan), Jerry (Kathy) and James (Laurie). John was born and raised in Winnipeg where he continued to work and watch his boys grow up. From there they travelled to Blue Lake for family vacations over many summers. John was an operator for Winnipeg Transit for almost 30 years. He was also co-owner of the Gardenia Florist with his mother and brother Henry for 40 years. John retired in 1996, but continued to enjoy golfing, playing cards and going to the casinos all with friends and family. John also loved his dog Rusty for 10 amazing years. Later on, Jim's dog Reena also brought him a lot of joy. In honour of John's memory and according to his wishes, no funeral service will be held. Family would like to thank all the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their amazing care and compassion. You are truly appreciated! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Our condolences to Barb, Bill and the Degroot Family. John and Barb looked after our dogs, Star and Tausha quite often and even though Tausha was hard to handle sometimes she loved John and would sit on his lap. She didn't do that with too many people so John was special. He was a big hearted guy and will always be remembered in our family. We will miss him. - Posted by: Ross and Susan Arnold (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2013
